Water leak floods Dunn
Fourth floor residents of Dunn soak up water
from the hallway after a commode sprang a
leak at 6:30 Tuesday evening. Gravel in the
water lines caused a filter to stop up in room
408, which began leaking during repairs. Three
to four inches of water caused carpet damage.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Eleven
cities, including Houston and three
previous hosts, have expressed in
terest in the 1976 Democratic pres
idential convention, a spokesman
said Tuesday.
The three cities which have held
previous conventions are Los
Angeles, Miami Beach and
Chicago, all of which are believed
by party officials to have the neces

The other cities expressing an in

New Orleans, Atlanta, New York,
Washington and Norfolk, Va.
All 11 cities have been asked to
make presentations to an April 2-3
hearing by the party’s Site Selection

DALLAS (AP) — Nearly 2,000
federal employes will begin
evacuating a downtown govern
ment office building here in March
due to a fungus suspected of causing
a lung disease in workers.
Most of the government offices
will be moved out of the 48-year-old
Santa Fe Building by Sept. 1, the
Federal Executive Board an
nounced Tuesday.
The announcement came after of
ficials received the latest medical
report on the disease called hyper
sensitivity pneumonitis.
One official said the report did
not show any newly diagnosed cases
but did reveal new “highly sus
pected cases.”
Three employes have been diag
nosed as having the disease and
“less than 10” are suspected cases,
the official said.
Persons with the disease or who
are suspected of having it worked in
the Santa Fe Building and the ad
joining U.S. Courthouse or Federal
Building. Official plans, however,
call for employes to be removed

In a report to federal employes,
officials stated, “Although a specific
antigen or set of antigens associated
with hypersensitivity pneumonitis
have not been identified, it is likely
that greatest exposure of antigen oc
curs in the old building. ”
The disease, not infectious or
contagious, is caused by an allergic
reaction to the antigen, suspected of
being in a fungus in a water unit of
the old building’s air conditioning
and heating system, officials said.
The report said there does not
appear to be a “significant health
hazard” associated with working in
the building when the air condition
ing system is not generally in use.
