It’s been said that they’re stupid — but the ever-rising SAT entrance scores at A&M seem to disprove that yarn. Aggies are known to be all round losers, too, but if their 6-1 SWC basketball record is any indication, that’s another falsehood. Another assumed Aggie trait is determination. But that shoe does seem to fit — at least it fits the feet of two die hard Aggies who made it their plight to travel to Longhorn territory for the A&M-Texas game on their bicycles. Gary Jones, a senior education major, and Dale Cline, a junior in accounting, started out for Austin around nine o’clock the morning of the game. After successfully peddl ing eight hours and 80 miles, Cline and Jones realized it would be im possible for them to make it to the game if they attempted to complete the 30 remaining miles on their bikes. They should’ve kept peddling. By the time Jones and Cline were driven into Austin it was too late for them to be seated in the inade quately small Gregory Gym any way. Not that they really wanted to be seated anywhere at all after the tir ing trek, as Jones went on to de- Arkansas tramples Froggies FORT WORTH, Tex. (AP) —Ar kansas strangled stubborn Texas Christian with its famed slow-down offense in the second half Tuesday night and the Razorbacks remained atop the Southwest Conference standings with a 71-60 victory be hind the free throw shooting ol Ricky Medlock and Charles Terry. Arkansas was tied with Texas A&M for first place with a 6-1 record and the Razorbacks of Coach Eddie Sutton are 12-7 for the year. TCU, which held a surprising 36-32 halftime lead before faltering, is now 2-5 in SWC play and 7-11 overall. Bill Bozeat, who had a career high 21 points, and Gary Landers, who scored 20, paced TCU until Arkan sas went into its stall with the game tied 55-all. Medlock hit two free throws and the Razorbacks never trailed with less than seven minutes to play. Terry hit a brace of free throws with 1.30 left for an insur mountable 67-59 Arkansas lead. Terry scored 15 points and Med lock had 14 for Arkansas from the guard position. scribe their physical condition. “Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion was needed for certain areas of our bodies,” he said. “Also it seemed that part of our under apparel had become permanently affixed to us.” Among the many hazards en countered by the pair along the way were numerous automobile drivers who enjoyed playing “chicken” with the cyclist and big dogs. Neither posed too big of a prob lem for Cline and Jones however, as both managed to stay in control of their vehicles throughout the trip, suffering no mishaps. Highlighting the trip were car loads of game-bound Ags who stop ped along their way to give Jones and Cline moral support. Two Mag gies gave them sandwiches to help tide them over. After it was all over, Cline said that he didn’t regret making the trip at all, but Jones added, “If we would’ve lost, there would’ve been one bicycle innertube crammed down the mouth of Ray Roberts (A&M basketballer).” It’s also been said that Aggies are never ending supporters of their team.
