Despite his restrictions, Joe man

Joey’s situation, the act is only inci
dental. He is experiencing the kill
without the hunt.
Sadly enough, the hunt varies lit
tle. The line that brought Napoleon
his conquests was probably the
same one that brought Joey his.
Throughout history, the male has
been the hunter and the female the
huntee. Although males rarely
admit it, the female has also become
an active huntee. When the male

cause of his irresistable charms. If
he only realized that he had been
taken advantage of.
Although it isn’t saying much for
female creativity, the woman uses
the same approach — only more
subtly.
The time is 3 p. m. Saturday af

“This is Suzy.”

“Is this Joey?”
Yeah. Listen, I was wondering
what you were, uh, doing tonight.”
“Not much, why?”
“Oh well, I thought maybe you’d
want to go to a party over at Tom’s. ”
“Well, I don’t know. I suppose I
could manage.”
“Great, I’ll pick you up around 9.
Bye.”

Since Suzy didn’t develop a se
vere “headache” (at least, not yet)
the happy couple are off to the party
and parts unknown by 9:30. After a
few drinks, three albums and two
hours:
“Suzy, don’t you think this party
is getting awful old? Why don’t we
go for a drive?”
“Well, okay, but I don’t want to
stay out late.” (Suzy is catching on)
After five miles, two stop signs
and one emergency, (car stalled on
Backwoods Street), Joey casually
mentions that he needs to stop by
his apartment for a minute and he
hopes she doesn’t ihind.
The next setting is in the apart
ment, where Joey’s minute is long
enough to listen to an album, drink a
beer and just “talks awhile”. Suzy
finally develops her severe
headache and politely, but firmly
requests a ride home. Suzy is the
emotional type, because twice she
threatened to call the police.
Despite the fact that Joey struck
out, he was able to enjoy the experi
ence of a hard-fought hunt.
Had Suzy been less emotional
about the police and more emo
tional about Joey, the ending would
have been different.
Following a couple more hours of
“talking”, less commonly known as
foreplay, Joey and Suzy too for that
matter, would have reached the
final stage of sex. The act itself. (It
has an almost reverent tone, huh?)
Although there are thousands
upon thousands of surveys and ex
perts claiming to show what the
“typical sex habits of man” are, none
are complete, for man lies too
much. Doubtless, Joey’s version
will differ considerably from Suzy’s
concerning Saturday night’s events.
Sex is respected mainly because it
is only a three-letter word. Yet it
does classify as an art, the oldest of
arts. One is hard put to call it a vice
as it populates the earth, provides
recreational activity and offers job
opportunities to the unemployed.

Hill last week questioned the val
idity or need for the rate increase
and warned the state might go to
court to block it. Bell then asked for
a meeting with Hill to explain its
reason for the rate hike. A spokes
man for Hill said Wednesday the
attorney general had received Bell’s
statement and would confer with
Bell officials Friday.
The company said the rate in
creases were needed to finance $705
million in new construction and re
newal and enlargement of its tele
phone plant. This program is vital if
the company is to fulfill its service
commitment to the state, Bell said.
Bell said inflation has increased
the cost of providing telephone ser
vice on every front, local exchanges,
intrastate calls and interstate calls.

has been apparent to us for some
time,” the statement continued.
“Contrary to popular belief, our
earnings in Texas are not the highest
of any state served by Southwestern
Bell Telephone Co., nor are they
among the highest in the Bell Sys
tem.
Bell said operating results for
1974 in the system are not com
plete, but that in 1973 Texas ranked
16th among the states in earnings.
Bell said the company’s rate of
return on capital in 1974 was 7.88
per cent, compared to 9.06 per cent
in 1967.
An intrastate toll increase of $45
million, coupled with the resolution
of the $48 million pending in local
exchange rate cases and anticipated
revenues from an interstate in
crease would improve earnings to
no more than 8.1 per cent, Bell said.
The company concluded that the
alternatives to the intrastate rate in
crease “are to cut back in expendi
tures and investments, which
would not be in the best interest of
our customer body as a whole, or to
drastically increase local exchange
rates throughout Texas. Both alter
natives were, and are, unaccepta
ble.” The company said it plans to
invest $700 million in Texas in 1975.
The statement did not address
the attorney general’s request for a
public hearing on the new rates.
However, the company has indi
cated it will consult with Hill later
on that matter.
