Main Downtown Bryan 822-3119 By JOHN COWDEN James Bond movies have always been associated with beautiful women, nasty villians and a cool secret agent who went by the code name 007. While these have not changed, James Bond is not the same spy he was ten years ago. Roger Moore has taken over the James Bond role from Sean Con nery and he has changed the Bond image. Guy Hamilton the director of the most recent Bond movie, has changed the movie’s style. The movies have changed from those di rected by Terence Young in the Six ties. “The Man With The Golden Gun” seems to be a tongue-in-cheek treatment of every other James Bond movie, except “Live and Let Die, Moore’s first appearance as 007. Moore is a playboy with a gun who is constantly being out maneu vered by his adversaries. He lacks the cool, very British exterior of his predecessor. The rest of the British Secret Ser vice, however, makes Moore look good. Headquartered aboard the half-sunken hulk of the Queen Elizabeth, they bumble about in bureaucratic confusion. Ironically, the best acting is by the bad guys. Bond’s chief adver sary is Francisco Scaramanga, a pro fessional assassin with a gold plated gun. Christopher Lee, a veteran of many forgetable vampire movies, does an excellent job as Scaramanga, almost becoming a nicer guy than Bond. His servant is a midget named Nik-Nak who is an engaging character. Bond and Scaramanga shoot it out on a one-to-one basis unlike most Bond films where 007 took on whole organizations. The cat and mouse game they play take them to such exotic places as Hong Kong and Thailand. The overall quality of the James Bond movie has fallen since the days when they were directed by I erence Young. The action lags until the last half of the movie, and we can only take Bond’s own words to heart, ‘You’ll forgive me if I’m a little slow on the uptake. ” WELCOME BACK AGGIES Fontana’s is now serving Mexican food prepared by Mr. and Mrs. J.
