Silver Taps is an institution uni que to Texas A&M, and should be supported without qualification by the students, but on its present course it will experience the fate of Sunday evening meals in Duncan and Sbisa. Jim Reynolds Poor story Editor: This is in response to your Dec. 3 game story about the t.u. game and directed primarily at your half- Aggie sports editor. It really made me sad to see that the Batt would place someone with as little true Aggie spirit at the posi tion of sports editor. He said that Skip Walker made a half-hearted attempt to tackle the UT defensive lineman that scored the second touchdown. How does he know what kind of effort Walker made? Unless he gets off his lazy butt and tries out for the Fighting Texas Aggie Team, he has no right to judge what kind of effort was made. I’m proud to be an Aggie and I’m proud of our football team. Sure, we got outscored but we didn’t get beat. It seems if the Batt were really interested in promoting Aggie Spirit and supporting our team, that the managing editor might recon sider his poor choice of sports editor. If the sports editor thinks so little of the team and everything it stands for, he might consider transfering to t.u. I’m sure they could use a sorry sports writer there. Donald E. Scott The UT game story was written by Tony Gallucci. He is a writer, not an editor and a writer’s goal is to distribute facts.—Ed. Rude again Editor: I am an avid concert-goer throughout Texas which includes those concerts held at other univer sities, but I have never witnessed such rudeness and immaturity of an audience anywhere but here. The Shawn Phillip’s concert caused me to lose the little patience I had left. When a highly talented performer such as Phillips is inter rupted in the middle of a song with mannerless outbursts like, “Where are you Jerry?” followed by laugh ter, and when Phillips has to hint for a little respect after a delay in the next song by saying, “Ya’ll just talk among yourselves,” I want to pack up and leave this school. When I transferred here from UT I had the impression that A&M was a warm, friendly university, that people had great respect for their school, but I have changed my opin ion. Has tradition left A&M? Is there anyone left who respects and appreciates not only other students but the school and its activities? I am not proud of A&M for its students acting in this manner. I think we have been damn lucky to have had all of the fine talent we have had in the past, but I doubt we will have any of this talent return, considering the unexcusable disre spect of students here. Vicky Martin Team supported Editor: This is in regard to Stephen Gilbert’s letter (Aggie tires of wait ing; Dec. 5) concerning the fighting Texas Aggie football team. We believe that even though we didn’t win the conference the foot ball team had an outstanding year and represented our school damn well. Overall thdy played excel lently and deserve our continued support. So to Stephen Gilbert we say: Highway 6 runs both ways—haul ass.
