Singers offer prize money
New Tradition Singers is offering two $5 prizes for the best new name
and emblem for the organization. Ideas should reflect the nature of the
group and the serious choral literature it presents. A prize will be given to
the originator of the name and the designer of the emblem. Entries may be
submitted to room 003 of the MSC.
Slide show will be shown
A slide show, “China Highlights,” will be presented by the Hong Kong
Club at 1 p.m. Saturday in room 102 of the Zachry Engineering Center. The
slides will feature the scenery and social life of ten major cities of mainland
China. The speaker will be Joseph Wang.
Floral design contest begins
The Floriculture Department is sponsoring a floral design contest today
through Sunday in the Plant Sciences Building. Competition open to all
students, is composed of four divisions. Divisions include large and small
Christmas arrangements, greens and fruit division and the terrarium divi
sion. Students may register and pay the required fees in room 302 of the
Plant Sciences Building. Prizes and ribbons will be rewarded to the winners.
The arrangements will be on display throughout the contest.

offer grants
AUSTIN (AP) — Rep. Senfronia
Thompson, D-Houston, said Wed
nesday she will introduce a bill next
session to set up a $25 million prog
ram of grants for needy college stu
dents over a two-year period.
The legislation was recom
mended by a special committee
which she headed.
The Committee on State Scholar
ship Programs also recommended
substituting the grants for numer
ous tuition exemptions, such as
those for children from families
whose income is less than $4,800 a
year and exemptions for alien stu
dents from Latin America.
