WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1974

Steve Chambers sank 15 free
throws and hit 14 points from the
field to lead the Aggie JV’s to a deci
sive 95-73 victory over Blinn Junior
College. The Ags now 2-0,
capitalized on heavy officiating by
hitting almost 80 per cent of their
free throws for 44 points.
A total of 61 fouls called in the
game slowed the pace but did not
cramp the style of the Ags as they
topped their point total of last game.
Chambers hit on seven of 16 from
the field and led the team along with
Doug Mezger in the rebound de
partment with nine. Kim Wyatt was
five for 10 from the field and six for
six at the line, to total 16 points.
Wyatt was the leading scorer in
Saturday's game with San Antonio
College.
Dale Donaldson and Mezger
were also in double figures for the
Ags with 13 and 12, respectively.
Bruce Ott had nine, Leroy Baer-
wald had eight, Mike Williams with
six and L.R. Vela with two rounded
out the scoring.
For Blinn, Arthur Jones led the
scoring with 16. James Anders and
Steve Parkhill each had 12. Robert
Darilek added 10 for the Huskies.
Darilek led the Huskies in rebounds
with nine.
Chambers credits the win to
“good team effort. We re working
more and more as a team. Mezger
and Wyatt are more open inside.
That draws the defensive man and
gives us a chance to get open.’’
As for the aggressiveness of the
team Wyatt said, “We’re tired of
being pushed around. We play the
varsity here everyday and it’s
rough. ”
Coach Bob Gobin said, “They
played pretty good. The defense got
us the game again. They caused a lot
of turnovers and steals. Chambers
looked real good. He is much im
proved because of much more con
fidence in his ballhandling. Wil
liams is looking real good especially
for being with us just one day.’’
The team travels to San Antonio
Thursday to participate in the San
Antonio College Tournament
through Friday. They return for a
5:15 matchup with tough Hill Junior
College on Saturday before the var
sity game.

The attendance of2,280 at last Saturday’s basketball
opener probably didn’t set any records but it was an
outstanding crowd considering the game occurred dur
ing the midst of the holiday season. On the other hand,
last night s crowd of 2,884 was a disgrace to the school.
Any team playing on this campus, especially if
they’re picked to win the conference crown, should play
before nothing less than a full house. With 21,000 people
at this university there should be two people in every
seat at G. Rollie White.
The Aggies will need every bit of help available this
Saturday in the game against powerhouse Oral Roberts.
A full crowd to back up the band would give the Ags a lot
of drive.
Take heed from Houston Baptist Coach Lonnie
Richards. Richards said after his fine team was beaten by
the Ags, “Any time you come into this gym you’re behind
12-15 points.”
Where is the twelfth man lately?
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
Either coach Shelby Metcalf s basketball players are
getting more aggressive or the referees have the early
season trigger-happies. The Aggie junior varsity and var
sity have played four games altogether this season. In the
four games, 227 fouls have been whistled by eight differ
ent officials. Neither team is more guilty than the other
or their opponents. The Ags have totaled 113 fouls to the
opponents 114. Of the Ags 113, the JV’s are responsible
for 59 and the varsity for 54. The opponents JV’s have
been caught 63 times, while the varsity opponents were
guilty of 51.
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
Of the 21 teams the Ags will have a chance of playing
(tournaments included), eight are mentioned in some
body or another’s top twenty (or 25) preseason basketball
poll. Those teams are Oral Roberts, Virginia Common
wealth, Indiana, Northwestern, UTEP, Hawaii,
Nevada-Las Vegas and Houston.
