Bowling team

The bowling team led by Ray
Scott’s 199 average and paced by
Doug Ocker s season high 299 is
currently in third place in the Texas
Intercollegiate Bowling Confer
ence.
The Ags currently have a 17-10
record, two games behind the
league-leading Trinity team posting
a 19-8 record.
The Ags are also posting the sec
ond highest league average at 921
pins, second only to Houston with
923. Leader Trinity has an 888 aver
age.
Ocker owns the best and third
best games in the conference at 299
(one short of a perfect game) and a
266.
His three line series of 684, how-

ever, is way behind John Prager’s
727 of UH, in third place.
Scott is tied with Ocker for third
place in three line series.
At the TIBC meet at Lamar Uni
versity in Beaumont on Nov. 9 the
Ags won six and lost three to finish
tied for third in the final standings.
Other members of the team are
Hal Vorland (190), Mitch Smith
(181) and Jim Adams (179).
The team will be traveling to Fort
Worth on Dec. 7. The meet will be
hosted by North Texas State Uni
versity with teams from Houston,
Lamar, Texas, Southwest Texas
State, Rice and Trinity competing.
The Ags will host a meet on Feb.
7 at a sight as yet undetermined.
The team is troubled financially
and price arguments with the Uni
versity Bowling Center may force
the Team to use the Triangle Bowl
in Bryan for the meet.

The kindest gesture to come out of a conference
school since I’ve been at A&M started this weekend and
is still going. The Campus Chest proceeds from the Rice
game in the amount of $2,501.46 are goint to aid Kent
Waldrop. Waldrop is the TCU player critically injured in
the TCU-Alabama game.
Waldrop is slightly improved after two weeks of
paralyzation.
The Student Government is continuing the collec
tion in Coips area and expect to raise an additional
$500. Any donation large or small, civilian or corps will
be greatly appreciated.
The sports department of the BATTALION sends
its regards to Kent.

The Allen Academy Rams, first of the neighborhood
teams to hit the playoffs, doused the Fort Worth Christ
ian Cardinals in the state semi-final game of the Texas
Association of Private Schools. The Rams knocked off the
Cardinals 24-0 behind the alert play of QB Mickey Rand.
The Cardinals, considered to be a contender, played
without the services of their top quarterback who suf
fered a shoulder separation in their last game. Ft. Worth
was forced to play a freshman quarterback with no ex
perience, definitely a factor in the game. The Rams will
now meet Northwest Academy in the state championship
game.
The Bryan Vikings also hit the playoff trail this
weekend, playing Conroe in bi-district play at 7:30 Fri
day in Kyle field. Bryan trounced Conroe 47-0 earlier in
the season but rest assured that Conroe learned its les
son.
A&M Consolidated, the other B-CS high school
team failed to make the playoffs despite a better than
average season.

THE AGS REALLY tarred and feathered their bowl
chances with the loss to SMU. The only conceivable way
for the Ags to go to the Cotton Bowl or any bowl for that
matter is to beat Texas. The Ags own the privilege of
being the only SWC with the chance to make their own
bowl dream come true. It’s now or never!
Baylor s new hopes
include SWC crown
WACO, Tex. (AP) — The Baylor
Bears reevaluated their goals Mon
day and decided they couldn’t be
happy with just a winning season.
That was the goal of the Baylor
team before the season began and it
accomplished it Saturday with a
17-10 Southwest Conference foot
ball victory over Texas Tech. It as
sured Baylor of its first winning sea
son since 1963.
The new goal is an all-out rush for
the SWC title.
“I think this new goal set by the
players is a realistic one,’ said
Coach Grant Teaff. “While we have
left two formidable opponents,
SMU and Rice, our young men are
gaining confidence each week and
are playing sound football.
Baylor must defeat either SM U or
Rice in the Bears final two games
and Texas must upset Texas A&M
Nov. 29 for the Bears to go to the
Cotton Bowl. Baylor last won a
SWC title in 1924.’
