Costs of class THE BATTALION Page 5 THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1974 Students will pay $465,000 yearly for University Center until 2001 By JIM PETERS Staff Writer The $28 million University Center is financed in part by tuition and building use fees, says W.C. Freeman, executive vice president for administration. Until May, 2001 students will be paying an estimated $465,000 yearly on a $6.8 million bond issue for the massive complex. Approximately $210,000 of that amount will come from tuition. Under Texas laws, $5 of a full-time student’s tuition may be used for permanent improvements” each semester. Backless Benches Cost $428 Each The rest of the principal and in terest payments on the bond issue will be financed by building use fees. The $2 per credit hour building use fee also covers bonded inde btedness for other projects such as the expansion of the Library, G. Rollie White Coliseum, the Univer sity Health Center and Kyle Field. However, about 65 per cent of the sum is earmarked for the University Center. A $10 per semester Student Center Complex Fee covers re placement of furnishings as well as maintenance and operation of the complex. Thus an average full-time student each semester contributes $5 tui tion, $7 in building use feas, and $10 in center complex fees towards the three-building complex. In addi tion, he or she pays a Student Ser vices fee, of which a portion is used for MSC and other activities. The remainder of the cost of the complex (apart from the bond issue) is borne by state monies from the Permanent Available Funds ($16.7 million) and from the interest on university local funds ($2.5 million.) The Former Students’ wing was fi nanced through its own donations. The $1.4 million construction cost for the Board of Directors annex was drawn from the Perma nent University fund only. The two-level board wing is lo cated west of the Memorial Student Center, extending from the end of the motel housing area. The “annex” consists of 12 suites on the second floor for Board members, visiting legislators and other dig nitaries; and the board room, entr ance hall and dining areas on the first level. Other major sections of the com plex include the $10.5 million Au ditorium and Conference Center, the $10.9 million Memorial Student Center and the Former Studetns’ wing. Outside landscape work cost $668,000, Freeman said. So far, the Board of Directors has allocated $26.5 million for the com-: plex. The balance of $1.5 million will be allocated in the near future, said Gen. A. R. Luedecke, vice ^president. 37 X $468 = $17,316 Number of Benches X Cost Per Bench = Total Cost of South American Steerhide Benches AGGIE CINEMA Film Poll Please check up to ten movies you would like to see during the spring semester The Way We Were American Grafitti Sounder Walking Tall Born Loser Billy Jack The Getaway Love Story Romeo and Juliet Take the Money and Run Play It Again, Sam A Man Called Horse Soldier Blue Walt Disney Films Charly Mary, Queen of Scots For Pete's Sake Airport (write in) (write in) Patton Mash Catch-22 Serpico Zulu Day of the Jackel Executive Action Lav/rence of Arabia Camelot Paper Chase Butterflies Are Free Lady Sings the Blues Shaft \ Kelly's Heroes Ben Hur Straw Dogs Hamlet Macbeth (write in) '(write in) Suggestions for Midnite Series: Suggestions for Classic Series: Suggestions for Director's Foreign Film Series: Please turn this poll in by November 22 any of the following places: 1) B-2, Hart Hall 2) 220, Dorm 2 3) 117, Dunn Hall 4) 9-G, Law Hall at the Aggie Cinema cubicle (Rm 216,MSC) or 5) 304, Fowler Hall 6) 418, Moses Hall 7) A-5, Hart Hall 8) 8-E, Puryear Hall vTear after year, semester X after semester, the CollegeM aster' from Fidelity Union Life has been the most accepted, most popular plan on campuses all over America.
