Favorite vice
Junior gets busted;
marijuana suspected
By T. C. GALLUCCI
Staff Writer
“Henry! Henry! There’s a strange
smell coming from Junior’s room!
“Henry! Henry! Junior ate two
bpxes of chips and three bags of
cookies!
“Henry! Henry! Junior’s been ar
rested!”
Junior was not arrested for glut
tony or B. O., but for the use of that
forbidden plant: marijuana. Con
trary to administrative opinion,
marijuana is a favorite vice. First, it
does apply to local students — re
member Dunn? — anli second, why
else would our lawm^ers take the
time to make it illegal?
In America “Cannabis sativa” was
once as commonly used as aspirin is
today. One miracle drug overtakes
another. In approaching the il
legalities of marijuana one should
note the confusion within the law.
Out of five or six common varieties
of hemp, only two are illegal in the
United States. The most common
being “Cannabis sativa. ”
A Hindu in India said of the weed:
“To forbid or even seriously re
strict the use of so holy and gracious
a herb as the hemp, would cause
widespread suffering and an
noyance and to large bands of wor
shipped ascetics, deep-seeded
anger. It would rob the people of a
solace in discomfort, of a cure in
sickness, of a guardian whose gradi-
ous protection saves them from the
attacks of evil influences., .so grand
a result, so tiny a sin. ”
Many feel as our Hindu friend
does, that marijuana will and should
someday be legalized. If it were, the
results would be endless. Marijuana
that now sells for $10 an ounce
would be displayed in drugstores
(literally drug-shops) in a neat pack
age of 20 cigarettes for $1.25.
Before the Surgeon General gets
a say in the matter, soap operas will
be interrupted with flashes of a
young executive-type saying:
“Hey man, for a really relaxed
party, throw away those bottles of
tequila and Scotch and enter a new
world of the American Tobacco
Company.”
The radio will blare “Jeepers,
creepers, baby share them reefers!”
The most important aspect of
dope smoking is never to “blow it. ”
This in reference to the jerk who
walks into your house and asks your
mom if you scored. Regardless of
whether or not she understands,
she is bright enough to know that
whether you did or not, you proba
bly shouldn’t have.
Marijuana, like its vice counter
parts, has techniques and rituals
necessary for its consumption. It
can be used in a cigarette, a pipe or
food, all of which require certain
equipment. The most common
technique, cigarettes, requires the
least equipment: marijuana, pap
ers, people.
A small amount of “the evil weed”
is placed gently (for frugal purposes)
on a piece of cigarette-size paper. It
is then carefully — oh, so carefully
— rolled. Its resulting size can vary
from that of a nonfilter cigarette to
that of a grand-daddy cigar.
The art of smoking a hemp-filled
pipe is a little more confusing. Al
though dad’s pipe can easily be
packed and smoked, veteran smok
ers have pipe preferences. One of a
variety, a large jug is filled with two
parts water and two parts air. A poc
ket is then placed in position to
cover the opening. The pocket
needs a screen and a pinch of weed.
Anywhere from one to 100 tubes
should extend from the pipe. The
tubes transfer the intoxicating
smoke from jug to lung.
Homemaking II courses can
come in handy for members of anti
lung desecration societies. Simply
follow Betty’s directions on the back
of a brownie mix box. However,
when Betty says to place the mix
into the pan — don’t. Instead, take
about $10 worth of marijuana and
gently blend it into the mix. Place in
pan. Place in oven. Bake. Result?
Euphoria at the company picnic.
These directions are not for the
purpose of encouraging the use of

For the benefit of those who have
never come into contact with mari

Persons under the influence of il
