John W. Daut, solid waste man agement department supervisor, said no crews reported for work as a large number of the city’s 700 gar bage workers unexpectedly called in sick. Hofheinz said the garbagemen have a legitimate complaint about truck maintenance and that his ad ministration will do everything pos sible to improve the situation. A&M instructor to teach abroad Dr. Charles Wukasch, modern languages instructor at A&M, has been selected for a Fulbright-Hays Award to teach English in Yugos lavia, beginning in September. Dr. Wukasch received his Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Texas in August. He had taught at TAMU since February, 1973. Pre viously, he taught at Mississippi State, William and Mary College and at the UT International Center Intensive English Program. He has also studied a year at the University of Liepzig in East Ger many. He was notified of his selection by the Council for International Ex change of Scholars and the U. S. State Department, Dr. J. M. Nance, campus Fulbright advisor, said. G. P. Pepper, Mobile Oil execu tive, Beaumont, lectured the J.T. L. McNew Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineering Tues day night. Pepper said areas off the U.S. coasts must be developed, balanc ing the energy needs with the needs of a good environment. He noted that of the 17,000 offshore wells dril led off U.S. coasts since 1946 only four produced major spills. Pepper said the current profits of the oil companies is not as great as people believe. He cited a Forbes Magazine study where Mobil ranked 400th in profitability over the last five years.
