Page 4 THE BATTALION WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1974 Dredging job costly BATTALION CLASSIFIED WANT AD RATES Taxpayers may be paying too much for the present method of dredging the Texas Intercoastal Waterway. A study on how fast material dredged from the waterway re turns is being conducted by Dean enters prison WASHINGTON (AP)—John W. Dean III, the principal ac cuser of former President Richard M. Nixon in the Water gate cover-up, surrendered today to begin serving a one-to- four-year prison term. Dean turned himself in at 2:50 p.m. EDT at the U.S. District Courthouse. He is expected to be detained for some time at Ft. Holabird, Md., allowing him easy access to the Watergate cover-up trial scheduled to begin in Washington Sept. 30. Dean had no comment when reporters asked if he felt Nixon also should face prosecution in the cover-up case. The 35-year-old former White House counsel surrendered at the U.S. Marshal’s office, where he was to be fingerprinted and undergo initial processing of his prison sentence. David R. Basco, associate pro fessor in the Coastal and Ocean Engineering Division at TAM U. Basco explained that dredge material is placed inside dikes when land is close to the dredge site, where it generally stays. “However,” he noted, “in bays and other areas where it’s apparently not economical to move the dredge spoil to land, it is: moved a short distance to form ‘spoil islands’ in the open bays.” Basco is working on defining areas needing dredging often and. those that seldom need dredging. He plans to correlate areas needing frequent work with the presence of nearby spoil mounds. “If we do find the correlation we could decide if in fact it would be cheaper to transport ril * e , a P ar ' i , couple onl One day 64 per word ■ach additional day nimum charge—75c Classified Displs 44 per word eac Minin JOB OPPORTUNITIES HELP WANTED FOR SALE lay $1.00 per column inch each Insertion DEADLINE 3 p.m. day before publication FOR RENT „ , , . .
