Theater Arts offers youth programs
TAMU’s Theater Arts Section of
fers a creative outlet for youngsters
as well as teenagers through its
summer theater programs.
For the five to 12-year-olds, sepa
rate programs in Children’s Crea
tive Dramatics are available in
Bryan and College Station. Pre-

theater technology, is open to any
teenager in the community.
Both programs are administered
through the Theater Arts Section of
TAMU’s English Department. C.
K. Esten, president of the Texas
Children’s Creative Dramatics and
Children’s Theater Conference,
chairs the section.
In Children’s Creative Drama
tics, children write and produce
their own presentations, with
minimum input from adults. Esten
said the Bryan-College Station
program is the biggest in the state.
Registration for the first session of
the Bryan CCD classes will be from
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 in Room
130, Bryan High School. Mrs.
Aileen Wenck will conduct the
program.
James B. Dennis is instructor of
the College Station CCD program.
First session registration will be
Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 12
noon at South Knoll Elementary
School.
College Station classes begin
June 10 and those in Bryan on June
11, with both phases ending July 5.
For the second CCD Session in
College Station, registration is
scheduled for July 13 with classes
beginning July 15. Sign up for the
second CCD session in Bryan is July
15, with classes starting July 16.
Both sessions run through August 9.
Registration for the Premiere
Players will be Monday, June 10 in
the Forum of TAMU’s Rudder
Center. Robert Wenck will conduct
the Premiere Players program.
Classes are tentatively scheduled
for 2 p. m. to 5 p. m. each weekday
beginning June 11, Esten said. The
session runs through July 13, and
will be highlighted by the produc
tion of the comedy, “Two Blind
Mice.”
July 15 is the sign up date for the
second session of Premiere Players
classes. Premiere Players activities
begin July 16 and end August 17.
Participants in the second session
will produce' “Love Rides the
Rails.”
All three programs require a $5
registration fee.
Venezuela asks A&M profs
to assist in delta oil studies
Geoscientists have been
asked by the Venezuelan gov
ernment to assist in marine-
related studies of a delta area
with oil potential.
A major portion of the
TAM U phase of the project will
involve the marine environ
ment.
The TAMU team is com
posed of a meteorologist, Dr.
George Huebner; an oceanog
rapher, Dr. Arnold Bouma,
and an oceanography graduate
student, Gary Hall of Seguin.
The overall project is ex
pected to begin in August and
last six months to a year. The
three men have already spent
two weeks in the South Ameri
can country meeting with gov
ernmental officials and con
ducting preliminary work.
Studies will center on the
delta area of the Orinoco River
which empties into the Atlantic
south of the island of Trinidad.

Registration will be at 6:45 p. m.
Wednesday for the summer com
petitive swimming program for boys
and girls in the Bryan-College Sta
tion area, announced Dr. Bruce
Robeck, president of the sponsoring
College Station Swim Club.
The sign-up session will be at the
Allen School swimming pool, where
participants will be working out
until completion of the new College
Station pool.
The competitive swimming prog
ram, which receives support from
the College Station Recreation
Council, includes age group com
petitive categories generally cor
responding to the public school
spectrum.
Dr. Robeck said the summer
program includes participation in
AAU-scantioned meets in Houston,
Clear Creek, Clear Lake and Tyler.
