WASHINGTON <A>>—The staff
of the House Judiciary Committee
is ready to recommend a sharp
reduction in the number of im
peachment charges it has under
investigation.
As many as 30 of the 56
charges involved in the inquiry
may be laid aside as unsupported
by facts when the committee
meets today in one of its final
sessions before it starts receiving
evidence.
The effect of the recommenda
tion, if accepted by the commit
tee, would be to narrow the in
quiry to allegations involving
Watergate and its aftermath, the
ITT antitrust settlement, politi
cal contributions of the dairy
industry, President Nixon’s taxes
and the activities of the White
House “plumbers.”
Laid aside, at least tempo
rarily, would be charges dealing
with the impoundment of funds,
