things happened to them today.”
The Eagles appeared to be into
their music and aware what each
of the others were doing. Constant
eye contact was the name of the
game.
“We did have a lot of eye con
tact tonight and it led to a good
show,” said Henley. “But that’s
the job, to give the audience its
money’s worth. The training that
it takes to get any job done comes
with experience.
“Right now it’s like we’re all
in graduate school, still learning.”
The audience reacted with the
group’s play. It ran from the
excitement of “Early Bird” into
the old traditional “Blackberry
Blossom.” There followed an in
tricate guitar prelude that un
expectedly led into “W itchy
Woman” and the 6,000 person
audience became one with the
Eagles’ free flight.
“Free flight is part of the
group’s ideals. We’ll keep moving
together as long as we’re artis
tically growing,” Henely said.
“We listen to a lot of country and
black music and are trying to get
that real sound from it.”
“Country music has gotten up
town and greasy. There are
meaningless lyrics. Hopefully we

Something real was getting to
the audience as they rose to their

Expert won’t
dispute verdict
NEW YORK — NBC News * 75 - 8n0 - 822-3
reported on Tuesday that a tape
expert hired by the White House
will not dispute the verdict of a
court-appointed team of experts
on an 18%-minute gap in a cru
cial Watergate tape.
NBC’s Carl Stern reported that
the White House expert, Dr. Mi
chael Hecker of the Stanford In
stitute in California, may disagree
with the other experts on some
technical procedures but not on
their conclusion.
Stern said Hecher “expects to
testify whether it helps or hurts
the President, and it now looks as
though it will hurt.”
A panel of six experts chosen
mutually by the White House and
the special prosecutor reported to
U. S. District Court Judge John
J. Sirica that the tape underwent
“the process of editing and re
recording at least five and per
haps as many as nine separate
and contiguous segments.”
Their report did not address it
self to whether the erasure was
deliberate or accidental, but said:
“The recording controls must
have been operated by hand in
the making of each segment.”
