College, Bryan The Ags then disposed of the highly touted Houston doubles team of Ross Walker and Dale Ogden in the semifinals match, 6-3, 6-1. Because of inclement weather, the final match between Hoover and Courson and SMU’s George Hardie and Tim Vann was moved indoors. SMU proved just too powerful for the Ags though and took the title in winning 7-5, 6-4. Although the Aggies failed to repeat as doubles champions, coach Omar Smith was pleased. “We played real well as a whole. “Losing to SMU in the final dopbles match was a bitter pill. Both teams played the percentage shots and came to the net real well, but our inability to return service when we needed the break hurt us.” SMU and co - fourth - ranked Houston tied early for the lead, but SMU leaped forward to take the team title after taking both the singles and doubles crown. Northeast Louisiana was third and A&M was in fourth just a point short of a third place tie. The Aggies finished higher than six nationally ranked teams and National Junior College Champ ion Central Texas. Also, over the weekend the Ags finished a rain-postponed match with Texas Tech. Emley and John Kirwan had their match cut short with Tech’s No. 2 doubles team after splitting sets here last week. Emley and Kirwan took the third set in Houston, 6-1, to win the match. The win completed a shut out over Tech in the Ags only Southwest Conference outing this year. RENT A 1974 DODGE DAY, WEEK, or MONTH Day $ Week Plus 7< per mile || HALSELL MOTOR CO. I1\C. U.S. captain Dan Bibeau’s forces took advantage of an early break in the first set and forged ahead to outscore the Internationals 7-1 in the second half of the set. The players of captain Jan Szalowski’s foreign squad came back strong in the second set allowing only a single early point by the American players in romping to a 15-1 score. The two teams traded sparse points in the third set and had trouble breaking out of a 5-5 tie. Points were traded until the game was tied 11-11. The U.S. then got things together and forged ahead. Karl Kuchnow finished the game with an irreturnable spike after the Internationals broke serve three times facing game point. A trophy, supplied by the Foreign Students Office, will be displayed in the Intramural Office.
