External affairs seat sought
Hank Wahrmund
Student government experience
is not as important as the willing
ness to serve the students, said
Hank Wahrmund.
Wahrmund, a senior journalism
major running for Vice-President
of External Affairs, has no exper
ience with Student Government.
“I feel that I can communicate
with University officials and that
they will speak openly with me in
return,” said Wahrmund.
Wahrmund plans to work for
better telephone rates for the stu
dents and for on-campus offices.
He is also concerned with im
proved mass transit and land
scaping the campus.
OPTIONAL FEES. Basically
opposed to optional fees, Wahr
mund cites the publicity gained by
the areas supported as the justifi
cation for subsidization.
PROFESSOR EVALUATION.
Wahrmund is definitely in favor
of publication of these evaluations
for student use. He said that he
feels the university is a place to
learn to communicate effectively
and this is one way to do it.
SG SALARIES. “Never! I think
that any person who accepts mon
ey for the job is a worthless in
dividual,” said Wahrmund. “I
think that it should be voluntary.”
PUNISHMENT. The establish
ment of a student board to con
sider any offenses to be punish

final decision as to punishment is
the answer to inconsistent and
overly harsh punishment said
Wahrmund.
ACADEMIC COUNCIL. The
need of the students for an equal
voice with the faculty was stress
ed by Wahrmund. He said that
he felt the students had the right
to voice their opinions since they
had a vested interest.
NSL-TSL-TSA. Wahrmund sug
gested that TSL could be a good
medium to use for getting better
telephone service. He said that
when A&M gets something in re
turn for their contribution to the
organization, he will support be
longing to them.
John Nash
Optional fees
People who get the most good from
a service should pay the most for it,
said John Nash.
Nash, a junior economics major and
candidate for Vice President of Exter
nal Affairs, stressed that he had done
extensive work with the external
affairs committee this year and had
attended many conferences.
OPTIONAL FEES. A totally
optional fee would be the ultimate
goal, said Nash, but the administration,
and perhaps the students, are not ready
for that step. He does favor a user fee
in the meantime.
PROFESSOR EVALUATIONS.
Nash said that he would like to see the
professor evaluations published for
student use. If the administration does
not do it, then the Student Govern
ment could.
LIQUOR ON-CAMPUS. “I am
definitely in favor of liquor on campus
and I think that Steve Eberhard
expressed it very well,” said Nash.
SG SALARIES. Student Govern
ment executive officers are not in
school to obtain semi-professional
training and should not be paid for
their work.
PUNISHMENT. “I think that it is
very healthy to have the kind of input
we have seen from the Senate on
disciplinary matter,” said Nash. He said
that it would be necessary to con
stantly review measures for offenses as
well.
“They are more like apartments
and the outside world,” said Nash.
ACADEMIC COUNCIL. Nash said
that he feels there is a need for as
much student input as possible on all
university committees.
NSL-TSL-TSA. As external affairs
chairman, Nash said that it would be
his goal to make TSL more responsive
to the student bodies of the campuses
represented. He said that a student
referendum like that of the NSL would
help the organization to better gauge
what issues should win their support.
