A&M’s track outlook isn’t bright
this week as sophomore sprinter Sam
Dierschke tries to recover from a
pulled groin muscle received during the
College Station Relays last Saturday.
The Aggies go to Dallas to compete
in the star-studded Dallas Invitational
Saturday against a strong field that
includes Texas, Rice, SMU, University
of Texas-El Paso, Oklahoma State and
Southern Cal.
“We’ll just have to wait and see,”
Coach Charlie Thomas said of
Dierschke, who competes on both
relay teams and runs both the 100 and
220. “We may have to scratch the
440-yard relay team if he isn’t able to
run.”
Although they didn’t win a single
event, the Aggies finished second to
Baylor in the six-team University Divi
sion of the College Station Relays and
they had some improved efforts in a
number of events.
Scottie Jones ran a 13.7 for second
place in the 120 high hurdles; Charles
Dawson had a 9.5 for second in the
100; Tom Owen long jumped 24-5‘/2
for second place and Jacob Yemme
dropped his three-mile time to
14:37.4.
Following the Dallas Invitational,
the Aggies go to Baton Rouge, La.,
next week to face LSU and then they
have three straight weekends of top
action in the Texas, Kansas and Drake
Relays.
Halfmiler Horace Grant, a key
member of the Aggies’ mile relay unit,
may be back in action this week after
having missed the past two Saturdays
because of an injured back and illness.

Early in the second round,
Foreman caught Norton with a
right hand to the side of the head
as the challenger tried to slide
away from the ropes.
Sensing that Norton was n
trouble, Foreman moved in with
a left-right-left-right to the head
that knocked Norton onto the low
er strand of the ropes.
Referee Jimmy Rondeau jump
ed in and signaled a knockdown,
although Norton hadn’t hit the
floor. Norton took a mandatory
eight count.
Foreman then moved in with a
barrage that drove Norton to the
ropes.
The referee stepped between the
fighters as Norton appeared to
be tangled in the ropes. Foreman
came back in again with a flurry
of smashes to the head that drop
ped Norton flat on his back.
The challenger beat the count
of 10 but Rondeau ruled he could
not continue.
The fight was stopped at the
two-minute mark of the second
round.
The easy victory paved the
way for Foreman to fight Mu

bring both fighters at
