Tuszynski got the Mustang go- ahead basket on a layup 62-61 and SMU stretched the margin to seven points before the Red Raid ers made a last-minute surge. A basket by Tuszynski made it 72-67 but Tech narrowed it to to 72-71 on a 20-foot jump by Rich Little with 34 seconds left. Ira Terrell connected on one of two free throws with 17 seconds remaining and a last-second shot by Tech’s Grant Dukes found iron and failed to fall. Tech is now 6-1 in the SWC race and tied with Texas. SMU is 3-4 in league play. Roan, the Mustang football tight end, gave the Mustangs muscle under the boards when Coach Bob Prewitt inserted him into the lineup with three min utes to play in the first half. Roan played all of the second half. Tech jumped to a 42-33 half time lead as it hit 60 per cent from the floor. Tech was led by Rick Bullock, who scored 19 points but only had seven in the last half.
