Abilene’s Moser Joins Coaching Staff
Receiver Coach Bartosh Leaves for Position at UTEP
THE BATTALION
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1973
during the mid-fifties, will become
the offensive backfield coach at
Texas A&M.
“Bartosh did an excellent job
for us and we wish him well in his
new position,” Bellard said. “We
are extremely pleased and feel
fortunate to get a man of Moser’s
capabilities to join our staff.”
Moser said, “I’m thrilled to
death for the opportunity to work
for Coach Bellard. The head coach
is the most important factor in
a football program and I just
want the chance to help Coach
Bellard and Texas A&M. I believe
he is building a winning program.”
Moser, a native of Chillcothe,
Mo,, was an all-conference center
at the University of Missouri
where he obtained a bachelor’s
degree in physical education and
science and a master’s degree in
school administration.
He started his coaching career
at Lexington (Mo.) High; served
in the Air Force during world War
II with the rank of major and
then resumed coaching at Mc
Allen (Tex.) High. He went from
there to Abilene where in seven
years, his Eagles won six dis
trict titles and three state champ
ionships.
He was carried to the former
Doris Woodley of Sabinal, Tex.,
in 1942. They have two daughters;
Mrs. Jane Drumm of Austin and
Glenn Moser, an elementary
school teacher in San Antonio.
He is due to report about mid-
January.
Hacker Makes World Team
A&M’s Jim Hacker was named to the All-Tournament team at the
recently completed World Amateur Baseball Tournament in Managua,
Nicaragua.
The United States team on which Hacker played third base, won the
world title with a 10-0 record. Hacker, a senior from Temple, batted .333,
had nine runs batted in and five stolen bases.
“The championship game was really something,” Hacker reported.
“We beat Nicaragua 1-0 in 11 innings. There were 40,000 people in a
22,000-seat stadium and there were firecrackers on the field after nearly
every pitch. It was a great experience. You learn to appreciate simple
things like a glass of water and a hot shower.”
Each member of the winning team was given a gold medal Hacker
earned a spot on the select squad by being named to the All-America
Amateur team this past summer for his play with the Boulder (Colo.)
Collegians. Hacker hit .442 at Boulder.
