WASHINGTON — Edward M.

spirits Monday and making a
good recovery from surgery to
rid his body of bone cancer.
The 12-year-old son of Sen. Ed

surgery at Georgetown Universi

his right leg was amputated just
above the knee.
A family spokesman said the

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Republicans
are deluding themselves if they
think that Watergate won’t have
an effect on the 1974 elections,
pollster George Gallup told GOP
governors.
Asked during a panel discussion
at the Republican Governors Con
ference what he thought about
Republicans who have downgrad
ed the importance of Watergate,
he replied: “Wishful thinking.”
Gallup said, however, the public
tends to forget issues once they
leave the front page. “It de
pends on how long it goes on,”
he said.
