Sendral’s grandfather flew with the German Luftwaffe in World War II. Emile has a course plotted for a career in the U. S. Air Force, through the Air Force ROTC pro gram at Texas A&M University. The aerospace engineering ma jor is a cadet captain in the Ag gie Corps of Cadets, Fourth Group adjutant and flies in an Air Force contracted flight program at the university. Sendral lacks two dual cross country and two solo cross coun try flights completing the Flight Instruction Program. It will en able the student born in Haiti to get a private license. But more important, to Emile and the U. S. Air Force, the pro gram “weeds out” pilot category cadets with no aptitude for fly ing. “I’ll try it for a six-year tour,” the son of a Puerto Rico exporter said. “If it works out. I’ll prob ably make a career of the Air Force.” “I like to travel,” the multi lingual Sendral smiled. “An Air Force career would probably make it possible for me to see some Conference To Feature Hobby, Hill Lt. Gov. William P. Hobby and Attorney General John Hill will be featured speakers at an A&M conference on air pollution con trol Nov. 5-7. The first annual Symposium of Air Pollution Control in the Southwest will host more than 500 air quality engineers, equip ment manufacturers and govern mental representatives of air quality boards. Directed by Dr. Roy W. Hann, professor of civil engineering, the conference will provide an oppor tunity to learn principles and ap plications used in the air quality control field, to keep abreast of latest developments, and to es tablish a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences. Heads of air quality boards in six states will attend the sympo sium and discuss their states’ ac tions and guidelines with respect to air quality, and more than 35 technical papers on subjects rang ing from agricultural processes to transportation and modeling will be presented. Lt. Gov. Hobby will deliver the keynote address at the first day’s session. He will speak at 9:30 a.m. in the main lecture room of the Zachry Engineering Center. The Attorney General will de liver a banquet address at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Ramada Inn Ball room. He believes he might eventually make a military attache. Sendral speaks French, Spanish and Eng lish, with a smattering of Ger man. His mother was born in Berlin. He is part French and part Hai tian. Emile was a French citizen un til 1971. He received American citizenship papers in Houston. “It was necessary in order for me to get an Air Force ROTC scholarship and contract,” Sendral explained. He visited his sister, a junior languages major at TCU, on the Aggie Corps Trip to Fort Worth. Another brother and sister are at home. Sendral gets there infrequent ly. His last two summers were spent at Eglin AFB summer camp and working on a Gulf Oil drilling rig off the Louisiana coast. Holidays are spent in Texas, such as visiting in the home of his roommate, Bobby Cantu, at Helotes near San Antonio. Emile has seen much of Texas and some of the U. S. through his student activities. He marched on the Fish Drill Team, winner of the fourth of five straight na tional championships his fresh man year. A Distinguished Mili tary Student, he also is a member of the American Institute of Aer onautics and Astronautics, Town Hall, Sigma Gamma Tau and Wings and Sabers. He earned Distinguished Stu dent status enroute to a 3.0 over all grade point ratio in TAMU’s 4.0 system. Sendral’s flying reminds his mother and grandmother of his grandfather, whom they say he resembles. “He loved planes and dro,. race cars, including a BMW Is owned,” Sendral said. “He grandmother were married in,, airplane circling Berlin.” Emile’s grandfather didn’t,,, himself though. As a news corns pondent, he accepted assignment, as a gunner on a German boml*, to get to the front. His plane shot down over France. A German soldier later $ word to the family that hisna was seen on a grave marker.
