    The old hospital presented a gloomy sight
Health Center
To Open Monday
A&M’s health facilities
will be given a “shot in the
arm” with the opening of the
new University Hospital on
Monday.
The new health center
consists of three floors, the
first of which is the out-pa
tient department with 12 ex
amination rooms, seven doc
tor’s offices and administra
tive offices for the hospital
staff. In addition, there are
special clinics for physio
therapy, audio, eye, ear, nose
and throat, dental hygiene
clinic and a special clinic
for injections.
The second floor contains
the longer term patient fa
cilities. There are 20 rooms
for double occupancy, two
rooms for isolation of con
tagious diseases and one in
tensive care unit for the
acutely ill.
Nurses and doctors can
relax in lounges and food for
staff and patients will be
prepared in the new hos
pital kitchen and cafeteria.
Dr. Hal Powe Jr., direc
tor of the new hospital de
scribes the $1.7 million fa
cility as “second to none at
least in the southwest.”
There are four full time
physicians and at night five
Bryan-College Station doc
tors stand by on call. In ad
dition, specialists in the
fields of radiology, urology,
surgery, orthopedics, gyne
cology, internal medicine
and psychology serve as con
sultants.
Out patient service will
begin at the new facility
this weekend. Due to mov
ing from the old hospital to
the new one treatment will
be restricted to emergency
cases.
