In con junction with the swimming is a weight program Mondays and Wednesdays at bibs' p.m. Women’s gymnastic practices are held Monday through Friday on the third floor of G. Rollie White Coliseum at 5 p.m. There are meetings tonight for Volleyball in the G. Rollie White annex and tennis meets at 4:30 p.m. in the Coliseum’s main floor. TRY BATTALION CLASSIFIED The captains for the 1973 Ag gie football team were announced at the squad’s workout this week end. Heading the offehse will be junior center Ricky Seekei 4 and sophomore quarterback Mike Jay. Captains for the defense will be senior Larry Ellis and sophomore Ed Simonini. Seeker is a 6-3, 240 pound center fron) Bay City. Playing at tackle last year, he was selected to the aJl-SWC sophomore team. He platted center as a freshman. Jay (5-11, 180) is a high school all - America from Torrington, W^o. Last year he quarterbacked tfie Quantico Marines to an 8-4 year against college teams. Ellis is a 6-0, 170 pound safety frorri Jacksonville. After making all-East Texas in high school he was not recruited and made the team at defensive back as a walk- on his sophomore year. He is the only senior letterman on the squad. Simonini (6-0, 205) is, in the opinion of many, the top sopho more linebacker in the nation. He was picked to be the fifth top sophomore in all positions in the nation by Playboy and made the pre-season all-SWC team in Tex as Football magazine. Halfback Bubba Bean and de fensive end Blake Schwarz re turned to workouts Monday as the Texas Aggies continued prepara tion for their season opener against Wichita State Sept. 15 in Kyle Field. Both players had missed a week of drills, Bean with a deep thigh bruise and Schwarz with a bruised knee. Defensive end Paul Hulin sat out Monday’s drill with a slightly pulled muscle. A light rain fell through the latter part of the session as the offense and defense drilled against Wichita State plays and formations. The practice was closed to the public, as will all future drills until further notice. The squad was in excellent spirits Monday as the opening kickoff approaches. A large number of the playing personnel will be wearing the Maroon and White for the first time in a varsity game. Coaches and play ers alike are hoping for a large crowd to see what the Wichita coach Bob Seaman has called “his best team.” The Shockers were 6-5 last year, and Seaman feels they have improved at nearly every posi tion. Tackle Dennis Smelser and guard Bud Trammell will be fac ing a big challenge because they will draw the assignment of blocking Shocker all-America can didate Rick Dvorak, a 6-4 240- pound tackle. Texas announced that tight end Rick Davis underwent back sur gery Monday and will be lost for the season. Tommy Ingram and Parker Alford will replace Davis. Gaspard and Walker have been bothered by knee injuries while Landry has a pulled hamstring. ing minor leg injuries earlier ton.” Six Intramural Categorm Close Entries Wednesday Intramural entries for men’s volleyball, handball, team tennis, team golf and both men’s and women's flag football will close Wednesday at 5 p.m. “We hope to have 99-95 percent of the student body involved in some sort of sports activity this year,” said intramural director Dennis Corrington. “There will be concentrated effort directed to ward the off campus student and coed to 'become active in the wide variety of programs offered.” A number of flag football games have already been played in Classes A and C, with the other classes beginning play within the next week. Scores of these games will appear regularly in The Bat talion.
