mian in the Class 4A title game.
Galveston Ball, a 1972 quarter-

Mustangs’ Harrison Fighting
To Regain Form After Injury
By DENNE H. FREEMAN
Associated Press Sports Writer
DALLAS or) — A year ago
Kenny “The Flash” Harrison was
the hottest receiver in the South
west Conference and the only
freshman to make the All-SWC
first team.
Now, the sophomore from Beau
mont is trying desperately to
recover from a damaging knee
injury so he can be ready when
Southern Methodist starts the
1973 football campaign.
“I think I’ll be ready for at
least the conference opener
against Rice,” Harrison said
Wednesday. “But if I can’t go at
full speed I don’t want to go at
all. I might consider a redshirt
year.”
Harrison, who is down to 140
pounds spread on a 6-foot-l
frame, was injured during spring
practice when Coach Dave Smith
tried him at quarterback. Harri
son suffered ligament damage to
his left knee.
“I can lift 60 pounds of weight
but the rehabilitation has been
tough,” Harrison said. “It’s
lonely work and you’ve got to
put your mind to it.” ”
Harrison said, “I’m still afraid
to try to cut on the knee. I just
jog straight ahead on it.”
Harrison’s role as a receiver
was going to be sliced in half
this fall anyway because of new
Coach Dave Smith’s Wishbone-T
run-oriented atttack.
“I’ve always considered myself

a team man. I would do any
thing to win,” said Haarrison. “I
don’t consider myself a selfish
player. I’m a poor blocker and
really need to work on that aspect
of the game. We’ll be running
the ball five to one this fall so
Pve got to work on it.”
The Mustangs have three out
standing players this year from
Beaumont-Harrison, All-SWC de
fensive tackle Louis Kelcher, and
hard-running Alvin Maxson.
Texas Tickets
Selling Fast
There are no more tickets in
the concrete stadium of Kyle
Field for the Thanksgiving Day
football game between Texas
A&M and Texas.
A&M Athletic Ticket Manager
Euleta Miller said Wednesday
that there are about 4,500 tickets
available for seats in folding
chairs on the track which en
circles the football playing field.
They are priced at $6 each and
are going rapidly.
Tickets also are gone for the
Aggies’ road trip to LSU.
There are tickets for the other
nine games. The Clemson and
Arkansas tickets are $7 each
while tickets to all other games
are $6 each.
Fans can buy tickets at the
windows in G. Rollie White Coli
seum from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
weekdays.
The Aggies open 1973 compe
tition a week from Saturday
(Sept. 15) against Wichita State
at Kyle Field. Kickoff for that
game is 7:30 p.m.
“There’s not much to do in
Beaumont but go to the pasture
and play football,” Harrison said.
“I guess that’s why so many good
players come out of there. You
see them playing sandlot football
all the time.”
Asked if he regretted the brief
fling at quarterback which caused
his injury Harrison said “No, I
wanted a shot at it. I came here
as a quarterback.”
Now all Harrison hopes is that
his knee will recover in time so
he can win back his old job.
