CASH FOR USED BOOKS LOUPOTS Across from Post Office Kent Ellis, Evangalist "REPENTANCE” Probably the most difficult thing to get men to do in obedience to the will of God is to repent. It has been said that the greatest obstacle to the salvation of men is the obstinancy of the human will. Repentance is that change of mind or will which results from godly sorrow for sins, and which results in a reformation of life (II Cor. 7:10; Luke 4:8-14). There are two great incentives to repentance. One is the consideration of God’s goodness. “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” (Rom. 2:4). As a person meditates on God’s goodness and considers his own ingratitude and rebellion he should be led to godly sorrow for and renunciation of a life of sin. The other great incentive is the contemplation of God’s wrath. “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:5). A sure conviction of the dire consequences of a life of sin is also well- designed to effect a change of mind about living in such fashion. In the New Testament a large number of voices combine to urge repentance of the sinner. John the Baptist, Jesus, and the Apostles made it a chief theme of their preaching (Matt. 4:2; 4:17; Mark 6:12; Luke 24:46, 47; Acts 2:38; 17:30). If they could, those who have died in a lost condition would urge re pentance on the living (Luke 16:30). There is rejoicing in heaven itself and among the angels of God over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7, 10). Man’s only choice is to repent and enjoy God’s goodness, or refuse to repent and endure His wrath. What will your choice be ? We invite you to our Bible classes and other services at 9:30 a. m., 10:30 a. m., and 6:00 p. m. on Sundays, and at 7:30 p. m. on Wednesdays.
