The Bears took advantage of A&M errors and wild pitching to win 6-5 and 4-3 and give Texas a three game lead with three to play. Ruggers Win At Galveston The TAMU White Rugby team whitewashed five teams on way to the second annual Galveston Rugby Tournament champion ship. Twenty-nine teams entered the three-day tournament sponsored by the Galveston shrimp festival. The Aggies breezed through the tournament compiling 153 points while failing to yield a goal. On way to the finals the Ag gies felled Hammond, La. 45-0, Pensacola, Fla., 13-0; Illinois State 30-0 and Houston 32-0. Longhorns Nip Aggie Netters A&M’s tennis team fell to the University of Texas 4-3 in South west Conference action Saturday. The narrow loss brings the Aggies record to 26-16 in SWC play while Texas ran its record to 25-3. In the top singles match of the day Dan Nelson of Texas defeat ed Bill Wright 7-5, 6-3. In the No. 1 doubles match A&M’s Dan Courson and Carter Lomax defeated Graham Whal ing and Nelson 6-3, 6-4. The Aggies next stop is a make-up match with SMU here today at 1:30 p.m. before the conference meet April 26, 27 and 28 in Austin. Any combination of one Texas win, one TCU loss ok a rainout for either team and Texas is kingpin again. In Friday’s first game, a ninth inning homer by Bob Redding gave the Bears the victory. The Aggies scored all their runs in the opener via the home- run ball. Sandy Bate blasted a three-run shot in the third, Mike Schraeder and Jim Bratsen added solo shots to cap the Aggie scor ing. A&M out hit the Bears 12 to seven but the win just wasn’t in the cards. Steve Janda, the fourth A&M pitcher, was the loser with Bay lor’s Rick Fox getting the win. Bobby Wittkamp started for the Aggies and was replaced by Jimmy Juhl in the fifth. Charlie Jenkins then hurled two innings before Janda finished the game. Schroeder was the leading Ag gie hitter in the first game with a 3 for 4 performance with Bate 2 of 4 with three RBI’s. Aggie pitchers walked seven and struck out six in the opener. A&M jumped to a early lead in the nightcap. A run on an error and Brat- sen’s second homer gave the Ags a 2-0 lead in the third. Baylor tied the contest in the fourth as Kent Wilson doubled in two Bay lor runs. The Aggies forged ahead again in the top of the fifth as Hacker singled and later scored on a fielders choice. Baylor bounced right back in their half of the inning scoring on an A&M error and fielders choice. Baylor sealed the sweep in the sixth as Denny Copland doubled and later scored on Tommy Oli- phant’s single. Bobby Falcon went the full six innings for the Aggies and suf fered the loss in the second game. A&M staff strikeout leader whiffed six and gave up five bases on balls. “We just couldn’t get the last three out,” said a dejected Aggie coach Tom Chandler. “We didn’t get help from the bullpen whep we needed it.” ‘Falcon had good stuff but miscues hurt us in the second game,” Chandler said. The Aggies now stand 8-6 in loop play with a 18-7 season’s record. Baylor is 8-7 in confer ence and 19-14 overall. A&M closes out season’s play this Friday and Saturday as Texas visits Kyle Field.
