Liberal Arts will sponsor a “sum
mer abroad” program this year
for students interested in com
bining foreign travel with study
at major European universities.
Dr. Herbert Lang, professor of
history and committee chairman,
said a wide variety of programs
is available and invited inquiries
from interested students during
the week of March 26-30.
The activities begin Friday,
April 20, with an informal social
featuring square dancing. It will
be held in the Zachry Engineer
ing Center at 8 p.m. It is open
to the public.
The following day the Pageant
will be held in the Bryan Civic
Auditorium at 7 p.m. Master of
ceremonies will be J. T. (Tony)
Price, executive vice president of
the Texas Cotton Ginners Asso
ciation.
Entertainment for the Pageant
will include The New Tradition
Singers and Dr. Robert Anderson,
assistant professor of Industrial
Engineering.

Cap and Gown is a colony of
Mortar Board, the first and only
national senior women’s honor so
ciety. The A&M chapter will re
main a colony for five years after
which it will petition for a charter
in Mortar Board.
The purpose of the organiza
tion is to promote college loyalty;
advance a spirit of service and
fellowship among university wom
en; promote and maintain a high
standard of scholarship; recog
nize and encourage leadership;
and stimulate and develop a ‘fin
er’ type of college women.
Members are elected in their
junior year and remain active for
one year or as long as they main
tain senior status. Women are se
lected on the basis of scholarship,
leadership and community service.
A grade point ratio of 3.0 is re
quired for admission. Total enroll
ment is limited to 35 women.

Jean Collins represented A&M’s
women’s swimming team in the
Association for Intercollegiate
Athletics for Women’s National
Intercollegiate Swimming and
Diving Championship during the
spring break.
The contest was held in Mos
cow, Idaho, on the campus of the
University of Idaho. There were
76 colleges and universities that
participated with over 400 com
petitors.
The judging was divided into
two categories, consolation and
championship. Collins qualified
for the consolation finals in the
100-yard backstroke and the 100-
yard individual medley. She
placed fifteenth in the backstroke
and twelfth in the individual
medley.
Collins made the championship
finals in the 50-yard backstroke
where she finished eighth in the
competition.
Four other swimmers qualified
for the national contest but could
not attend. They were Sandy
Berg, Martha Puckett, Pat Wil
kinson, and Shaw Boehmer.

the pageant.
The Cotton Ball, following the
Pageant, will begin at 9 p.m. in
the Zachry Engineering Center.
The ball will be a formal event
with popular music by the Cava
liers from San Angelo.
James Day, social secretary of
the sponsoring Student Agronomy
Society, said that April 21 is
timely for the event as the Aggie
Muster and Maroon and White
Football game will be held earlier
in the day.
“Pageant and Ball proceeds will
help finance an agriculture tour
of the state for juniors and
seniors majoring in agronomy,”
Day said.
