THE BATTALION
Win Would Secure Second Place Finish
Frogs Host Aggies In Final
By KEVIN COFFEY
Assistant Sports Editor
A&M will say good-bye to three
seniors and shoot for second place
in. the SWC basketball race to
morrow night in Fort Worth.
Jeff Overhouse, Mario Brown
and Bob Gobin will be playing
their final game for the Aggies
as they tangle with the hapless
TCU Horn Frogs in Daniel
Meyers Coliseum.
The Aggies are 1G-9 on the
season and 8-5 in conference play
will be assured at least a tie for
the runner-up spot with a victory.
TCU is bogged down in last
place in the conference with a
2-10 loop mark.
A&M can finish the second
round of conference with a 6-1
slate, best in the league, with a
victory. The Aggies posted a 3-4
mark the first go-round.
TCU did not return any start
ers from last year’s team and
sports one of the youngest teams
in the SWC.
Two freshmen will start for
the Frogs. Lynn Royal and Gary
Landers are among the few frosh
making an impression in loop
play this season.
They are joined in the line-up
by the tallest player in the con
ference, junior college transfer
Bill Bozeat, sophomore Eddy
Fitzhugh and letterman Herb
Stephens.
The Aggies beat TCU 92-73 in
College Station in a game marred
by 52 personal fouls. Bozeat was
ejected from that contest for
swinging at Gobin.
A&M will be out to establish
a new all-time scoring record.
The Aggies need 58 points
against the Frogs to become the
Hard Luck Track Team Entered!
In Tough Border Olympic Affair^
By BILL HENRY
Battalion Sports Editor
Texas A&M’s illness - struck
track team will enter its first
tough outdoor test this weekend
when it travels to Laredo for the
41st annual Border Olympics.
Four divisions will be involved
with the Aggies and all other
conference teams, except Arkan
sas, entered in the University
field. Other divisions will be Col
lege, High School and Junior Col
lege.
Texas is expected to win the
high point trophy, but Rice could
nip the Longhorns with better
individual performers. Texas,
strong on depth, could have that
neutralized with the large enter
ing field.
A&M coaches Charlie Thomas
and Ted Nelson have little hope
for success with the bad weather,
illness and injury that have swept
the Aggie camp.
Latest to check in sick was
quartermiler Doug Brodhead, who
won the 440 against Rice last
week in 47.6. Others who have
been sick or hurt include Horace
Grant, Harold Davis, Sam Dier-
schke, Billy Porter, Scottie Jones
and Robert Brew.
“We have just too many quality
performers who either are sick,
hurt or just recuperating from
illness to make a good effort,”
Thomas said.
“Workouts have been good this
week with a little better weather,
but many of the sick kids are not
strong enough to compete like
we’d hoped.
“The mile relay, javelin, high
jump and sprint relay could get
points for us.”
Twenty-seven individuals will
be entered in the meet for the
Aggies.
The next competition will be
a week from Saturday in a tri
angular meet at Kyle Field
against LSU and Rice.
A&M’s entrants at Laredo:
440 relay — Gerald D’Ambrosio,
Donnie Rogers, Gary Ordat,
Wayne Mills.
120 high hurdles — Keith Bucy,
Scottie Jones, Richard McGilv-
ray.
440 dash — Doug Brodhead, Sam
Dierschke, Horace Grant, Alan
Swagerty, Robert Brew.
100 dash — D’Ambrosio, Rogers,
Porter, Ordat, Swagerty.
880 run — Willie Blackmon, Har
old Vagtborg, Pat Bradley,
Dennis O’Brien, Adolph Tingan.
440 hurdles — Wayne Mills, Dav
id Morris, Bucy, McGilvray.
220 dash — Rogers, D’Ambrosio,
Ordat, Porter, Tom Owen.
Mile relay — Brodhead, Grant,
Blackmon, Davis.
Shot put — Craig Carter.
Discus — no entrants.
Pole vault — Harold McMahan,
David Peterek.
Long jump — Rogers, Owen.
High jump — Ben Greathouse,

Game
highest scoring team in A&M
basketball history. The present
record is 2,124 over a 27 game
season, by the 1968-69 team.
This year’s Aggies have al
ready broken the team field goal
mark for a season. They have 834
now and the old record was 771,
also set by the ’68-’69 outfit.
Overhouse has etched his name
on the A&M record books with
his performances over his three
year career. He is the fourth
ranking Aggie in career points
with 1,147 and SWC career points
with 647. Overhouse needs only
10 rebounds against TCU to pass
Ronnie Peret and become the
second ranking career rebounder
at A&M. He is already in second
place in SWC career rebounds.
Other starters for the Aggies,
besides the 6-7 Overhouse, are
6-6 Randy Knowles at the other
forward, 6-9 sophomore Jerry
Mercer at center, 6-3 Brown and
5-10 soph Mike Floyd at the
guard spots.
A victory tomorrow would give
the Aggies 17 wins for the sea
son, the most for an A&M team
since 1969.
The game will be broadcast lo
cally over KORA beginning at
7:30 p.m.
