something about trying to stop
the shooting in which Saigon has
reported more than 13,000 Viet
namese casualties.
The senior American military
representative to the commission
warned the Viet Cong meanwhile,
that the United States will not
tolerate any future delays in the
release of American war prison
ers in South Vietnam.
The Viet Cong delayed release
of 27 American prisoners Mon
day for more than 10 hours.
Representatives of the United
States, North and South Vietnam
and the Viet Cong also discussed
the 20 additional American pris
oners to be released from North
Vietnam in the next few days.
But is is understood that no firm
release time has been set.
U.S. officials made Sullivan’s
intervention with the Joint Mili
tary Commission known shortly
before the United States and
North Vietnam issued a joint
communique on talks Sullivan
and Henry A. Kissinger held in
Hanoi for four days.
The communique said the par
ticipants “had frank, serious and
constructive exchanges of views
on the implementation of the
agreement on ending the war and
restoring peace in Vietnam.”
While Kissinger flew into Hong
Kong Tuesday on his way to
China, Sullivan slipped quietly
into Saigon.
In a series of meetings Wednes
day, Sullivan conferred with all
four parties to the Vietnam peace
agreement.
It was understood in Saigon
that President Nixon has in
structed both Kissinger and Sulli
van to make efforts to get the
Vietnamese to reduce hostilities,
which though declining have per
sisted through the cease-fire.

POWs scheduled for release at
Loc Ninh staged a sit-down at
the prison camp at Bien Hoa
until they could meet wtih their
representative on the Joint Mili
tary Commission. The result was
a delay of more than 10 hours.
The first A&M coed Viewpoint
Panel gave advice to students
about dating behavior in its meet
ing Wednesday night.
“Be friendly and be yourself,”
seemed to be the main thought of
panel which answered questions
on almost every phase of life with
the A&M coeds.
The women stressed that guys
should not be shy and assume

Other Viewpoint Panels will be
on Feb. 21 and Feb. 28. These
panels will consist of coeds from
Texas Women’s University.

a “fraud,” says a former senator
who headed a legislative study
committee on Texas drug laws.
Former Sen. Don Kennard of
Fort Worth, now a consultant at
the Lyndon B. Johnson School of
Public Affairs here, endorsed a
bill introduced by Sen. Chet
Brooks of Pasadena.
Kennard was chairman of an
interim committee appointed by
former Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes in
1971. Kennard was defeated for
re-election last year.
He said Brooks’ bill, product
of the interim committee study,
makes pushers, not users, the
target of enforcement efforts.
The bill would make simple
possession of small amounts of
marijuana legal. Only the sale of
a drug would be a felony.
Kennard denounced the gover
nor’s plan, which would make
nearly all types of possession of
use in marijuana, including smok
ing paraphenalia, a felony.
“It’s an out-and-out fraud,” he
declared, “counter-productive to
the problem.”
He said the governor's phi

It “reeks of failure” and
prepared with an “instant a
pertise,” Kennard went on.

“The easiest thing to do is to
speak up and say hello, if you
want a date,” said panelist Linda
Todd.
The members of the panel felt
that good manners and nice dress
were important factors on dates.
“Blue jeans are okay for the
movies, but I’d rather have my
date wear knit slacks or dress
slacks for anything else,” said
Lynn Bliss.
“If a guy asks me if it is all
right to smoke, I’ll go ahead and
say no,” said panelist Sue Matula.
Most of the panelists felt they
did not want their date to smoke.
The panelists answered ques
tions from the audience that cen
tered around the women’s pres
ence on the campus.
When asked about the way
“Maggies” feel with the high men-
women ratio, Leilani Sanders
said, “I really don’t feel that the
women here have a superior feel
ing because of the larger amount
of men.”
