A funny thing happened to me
on the way to school the other
day: I missed the TAMU bus
from the Hensel Apt. area. I de
cided to walk and had soon passed
the bus up! By the time I reached
my destination—the last stop on
the bus route—I was about half
a block behind it, as I was when I
first missed it.
I live in the fartherest building
from the campus and can usually
walk to the main library in about
five minutes more time than it
takes on the bus, even when it is
not rush hour (and I’m quite a
bit over 30).
Maybe it would be sensible of
those of you who will be around
next year to “vote with your feet”
against spending another $65,000
or whatever your share of that
“mass transit” fund will be. (They
may make you buy a sticker >to
paste on your knee for the privi
lege of walking on campus next
year, though.)
Seriously, walking is not only
good for your health, but would
be a positive contribution toward
the alleviation of the current en
ergy “crisis.”

Being a freshman and straight
out of high school, I’m afraid that
I don’t quite understand every
thing that goes on at A&M. I
mean just last night the student
body was introduced to an All-
American footballer who had
just registered at A&M. How
fantastic! Yea for us!
I’ve got nothing against foot
ball but basketball’s my game.
The Aggies (according to the
Houston Chronicle) are now in
second place in the SWC but have
the possibility and resources to
be number one. Why then doesn’t
our coach cash in on his re
sources ?

Help — Write A Letter!
A lot of people are talking about it.
Your student leaders are doing something about it.
The issue—women’s housing, more of it and at a price more people
can afford.
We believe this issue is the most important one taken up for
t ’ t* consideration by Student Government representatives this year and
justly reflects the interests and desires of the majority of students
attending A&M.
We won’t repeat the reasons why A&M needs lower-cost women’s
housing or the fact that women on campus can help alleviate housing
problems. That has been said in the past and in today’s Battalion.
But, we will give you a few hints on how to make your voice heard
on the subject and hopefully, how to have a positive effect on the issue,
whatever side you may be on.
In support of this major issue and in concurrence with Student
Government leaders, we urge all students to write a letter to A&M
President Jack K. Williams expressing support on the issue.
In order for others to read and share your viewpoints, we are
asking that these letters be sent to Dr. Williams via The Battalion. The
letters will be printed (as many as possible) and then forwarded to Dr.
Williams’ office.
If you’ve never done anything publicly for A&M before, now’s the
time. Without YOUR support and help, the expansion of coeducational
housing may be delayed, a decision which could have quite an adverse
effect for years to come.
Mail or bring by letters to Dr. Jack K. Williams, c/o The Battalion
in Room 216 of the Services Bldg.

He’s got a senior All-American

Wayne Howard play? If he’s not

Editor:
My family and I would like to
thank you (the student body) for
your sympathy during our time
of pain. We greatly appreciate the
beautiful flowers sent to us in
memory of Jane.
Jane loved Texas A&M and
was proud to be an Aggie. She
had many friends among the stu
dents, faculty and staff and I’m
sure they will miss her as we
will.
She had a high regard for the
Silver Taps ceremony which she
considered to be a very dignified
and touching remembrance serv
ice. The ceremony illustrates the
closeness of the Aggies as well
as the individuality of the school
as a whole.

The other day I walked into the
library for the first time this
semester thinking to kill an hour
or so. I picked up one of the
magazines there and had been
reading for a little while when
I ran across this bit of wisdom
Lost—Yesterday, somewhere
between sunrise and sunset,
two golden hours, each set
with sixty diamond minutes.
No reward is offered, for they
are gone forever.
Horace Mann
It served to remind me that
I waste a lot of valuable time in
non-constructive actions. We
would all be wise to think of this
whenever we get the urge to
“blow off” an hour instead of do
ing that studying that should be
done.
