They opened their windows Set fire to the trash Jumped under beds screaming And broke out in a rash. On the barren commons ground And all were amazed At what they soon found. Suddenly, their ears Started to ring As a chorus of voices Began to sing. They sang from the rooftops And all through the day Twas the New Tradition singers And the warbling OP A. Many are so simple even the hardest pressed bookworm can time to make something for jift-giving. Some cigars still come in pret ty sturdy cardboard and even wooden boxes. House of Wind sor “Palmas” boxes are easily converted into purse boxes by the addition of a handle, latch and some imagination. An attractive shoeshine kit can be made by cutting holes in the tops of two cigar boxes and glue ing them together back to back. dividers made of pieces of spare cigar boxes if desired. Swag lamps can be made out of potato chip cartons by in serting purchased cord and sock et and ventilating the top. Fringed edges and open work add a nice touch and a decorative chain will really set it off. Don’t let your bulb set off your crea tion, keep the wattage low, and make sure your lamp has proper ventilation to avoid fires. Spray painting coffee cans and covering them with paper, vinyl, burlap, etc., can create a nice set of canisters for the kitchen. Blue Willow stencils and other designs are available at local craft stores. Felt wall hangings can bright en up the drabbest hole of a room. Using a woven backing, glue felt shapes to the backing to create a scene, or letter or a favorite verse. Sequins can be used for eyes, highlights, punc tuation or script, as can yarn and twine shoelaces. Choose the mode to fit your style. These felt pictures can easily be made to appear 3-D by stuff ing cotton under some of the larger pieces, folding or pleating edges to create petals, birds’ wings, people’s clothing or ab stract designs. Old worn out blankets miracu lously turn into attractive Christ mas tree skirts with a little bit of imagination. Felt patches or designs, sequins and glitter can really turn that old blanket into an attractive decoration. Even old army blankets when hidden by enough metallic trim can be utilized. Loop it, fringe it and make sequin snow flakes. Presto! You will have a stun- ningtree skirt that will make even Charlie Brown’s tree look gorgeous. WE NOW SELL PAPERS UKJVER.S l rY (across frm-m Texts A M ) At North Gate S+k-SSlS By JOY McCLESKY As Christmas rapidly draws near, Krueger-Dunn is involved in the prevailing spirit of the Yuletide season. While decorations were placed in front of the complex, many residents have found it exciting and enjoyable to he creative and provide accents on Christmas. Decorations began to gradually appear last week in the forms of mistletoe balls and tinsel around doors and windows. Twinkling lights and elaborate decorations spread a feeling of Christmas spirit throughout the dorm. Much time and labor has been put into many of the decora tions. Some decorations are made with cottonballs and construction paper with, a touch of Elmer’s Glue. Other women went as far as to buy and decorate fir and cedar trees. It surprises many students the extent and emphasis which has been placed on the decorations in side the dorm. As one student said after his pocket had been drained for Christmas decora tions, “This has been a most ex citing Christmas because I did it all myself.” Several parties are being plan ned in the lounges of Krueger. Popcorn tinsel has been strung throughout the dorm. Santa Claus and his eight rein deer fly across the wall on the third floor of Krueger and ap pears in his jolly red suit on the doors of several residents. Marsh- mellows are the primary com ponents in one very artistic door display as they spell out “Merry Christmas” with a snow and icicle surrounding on contact pa per. One room occupied by multi lingual students is decorated with “Merry Christmas” written in seven different languages. Though many feel the spirit of Christmas is dying, the residents of Krueger-Dunn prove other wise. The spirit grows and seems to involve all who take the time to observe the decorations. “Obscenity” A Debate by Lincoln Union Debating Society Thurs., Dec. 7th — 7:30 p.m. Arch.
