The Texas Aggies stood 1-5 with losses coming to Nebraska, LSU, Cincinnatti, Tech and TCU. Being very disheartened with the performance, the Aggies beat Baylor, Arkansas, SMU and Rice. A victory over Texas would have put the Aggies in the Liberty Bowl. The beginning circumstances are still the same with the Aggies 1-5 and it being time to play the Bears again. Saturday’s game will be be tween two new Southwest Con ference coaches, each searching for their first league victory. And it will pit the nation’s ninth and tenth worst college football teams as picked in Steve Harvey’s “The Bottom Ten.” The Aggies are ninth and the Bears made it tenth by “fumbling 15 times in the rain against Ok lahoma State.” Baylor’s Grant Teaff has lost to Arkansas in his only confer ence start and stands 2-3 overall. Victories came against Miami, which embarrassed Houston last weekend, and Missouri, who also upset Notre Dame the same week end. Emory Bellard has lost to both TCU and Tech in SWC action and is searching for the right combination of players to find that lone league victory after coming so close the past two weeks. A&M leads in the overall series of 69 games, 39-22-7. Baylor has won the past two contests played in its stadium, however. A&M started its winning 1971 streak with a traumatic 10-9 win at Kyle Field. It was Pat Mc Dermott’s record-setting 63-yard field goal that put the Aggies ahead late in the fourth quarter. Two years ago, Baylor scored two touchdowns in the final 10 seconds of the first half for a 29-24 win in front of the home coming crowd. In 1968, it was an other 10-9 game but this time it went to Baylor. Baylor comes into Saturday night’s contest almost even in rushing and passing yardage. The Bears have passed 103 times, completed 56, had eight intercepted and gained 627 yards. Rushing has netted them 814 yards in 255 plays, scoring six touchdowns. A&M is more adept at running with the football, but since soph omore Don Dean has taken over the starting role, passing yard age has picked up considerably. So far this season, the Aggies have rushed 305 times for 1,066 yards and 10 touchdowns. Passing has netted 786 yards on 57 of 110 attempts and three touchdowns. Baylor is quite similar to the Aggies in one respect—fumbles. Baylor has fumbled 32 times and lost 18. A&M has fumbled 31 times and lost 19 of them. Baylor wins the contest, however, by having played in only five games compared to A&M’s six. Leading rusher for Baylor is tailback Gary Lacy who has car ried 86 times for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Fullback Gene Wilson is second by carrying the ball 29 times for 138 yards, but no touchdowns. Brian Kilgore, an other tailback, has carried the ball but 12 times for 55 yards. Two sophomores, Robert Arm strong and Neal Jeffrey, handle the quarterbacking chores for Baylor. Jeffrey is the starter and an excellent passer. He’s hit on 47 of 84 for 513 yards and two touchdowns, but he’s had five intercepted. Leading rusher for A&M, Mark Green, suffered a sprained knee against TCU last weekend and will not play Saturday. Green has carried the ball 59 times for 322 yards and three touchdowns. Second-place rusher is Brad Dusek with 280 yards on 50 car ries and one touchdown. Bubba Bean is third with 167 yards on 49 carries and three touchdowns. Dean has thrown 48 passes and completed 29 for 440 yards and two touchdowns. He has had three intercepted. Drastic lineup changes have been made for the Aggies against Baylor. Bellard is displeased with the blocking performance of his offensive line and three of five linemen have been changed. Skip Kuehn is still at offensive center, but guards for Saturday night’s contest will be freshman Henry Tracy, moved up from third team center, and Ricky Seeker, moving from his tackle position. These two players re place co-captain Todd Christo pher and Buster Callaway, both seniors. At tackles will be Ralph Sacra and Mike Park, moved up to replace Seeker who took over the tackle job two weeks ago. Split ends will be freshmen Richard Osborne and Carl Roach es. Tight end will be Homer May. The backfield will be made up of Dean at quarterback, Dusek at fullback, Skip Walker will be at right halfback and Bean replaces the injured Green at left half back. A&M’s defensive unit will be the same as against TCU. Tackles will be Boice Best and Bill Wiebold. Ends will be Max Bird and Paul Hulin. Linebackers will be freshman Ed Simonini and seniors Grady Hoermann and Kent Finley. The defensive secondary will be Corky Sheffield and Roberl ski at cornerbacks andLaJ , and Dwight LaBauve at«■ vOl* Pat McDermott a Haddox will handle plactj while Murski does thepitetj Next week the Aggies t at home against Arl Homs Visit Rice, Tech At SMU Highlight Football Action Saturday Plantation Oaks Apartments
