RESERVE A GREAT APARTMENT FOR FALL
“Taxi” by Harry Chapin is one
of the year’s pleasant surprises.
It is included on his album “Heads
and Tails.” “Taxi” is a very beau
tiful song of lost love, lost time,
and a man’s demure acceptance of
both. Blending in enough piano
and strings to keep the tune mov
ing, Chapin sings the story as if
it’s his own. The song’s heart
ache and despair are in every cut
on the album. This could easily
have made the record one long
string of unpleasant downers, but
Chapin’s saving point is that he
never quite communicates wretch
edness.
Before I was through with
“Heads and Tails,” I’d heard
about the weariness of a whaler’s
lonely wife, the desolation of a
greyhound bus station and five
(count ’em five) different songs
about a lost girlfriend. Harry
Chapin doesn’t just lose a girl
like the Beachboys do; Chapin
loses his one and only true love
every time.
In the middle of this outpour
ing of woe, grief and emptiness,
I noticed that the high “female”
Disaster Rescue
Course Set Here
vocal on “Taxi” was done by this
big butkus-looking dude pictured
on the back cover. There is no way
to feel wretchedness while think
ing about that giant guy singing
in a super tenor voice. So if you’re
in the right mood for it, the lam
entations of Harry Chapin can be
pleasant listening.
“Sittin’ In” with Kenny Log-
gins and Jim Messina is one of
the most enjoyable albums I’ve
heard in a long time. It’s been
out a while, but it’s continued to
improve with every listen. It
would have to be put in the coun
try rock class, but it boasts more
of a tight arrangement than that
label usually suggests.
The “standard” steel guitar,
harmonica and fiddle are mixed
with piano, oboe and steel drums
to do eleven lively, and at the
same time relaxed, songs that are
all good music.
Loggins and Messina are the
authors of most of them, includ
ing “House on Pooh Corner.” It
is a nice combination of Walt
Disney lyrics and perfect har
mony between Loggins and Mes
sina set to an underlying oboenic
‘houilliere.’

Some“How comes?"
about shaving, answered:
How come I can’t get a close shave?
Maybe you should take your
clothes off first. Showering
before you shave will soften your
beard even more. Lots of hot
water and soap is the key to a
better shave.
That’s where whiskers grow the
most. Always shave there last.
The longer lather is on whiskers,
the softer they become.
Every stroke of your razor
scrapes away skin cells. So use
gentle strokes (and as few as
possible) in the direction your
beard grows. Never press too
hard with your razor.
Whatever bugs you about shaving,
ENGLISH LEATHER POWER FOAM SHAVE CREAM
can help de-bug it. We know shaving won’t ever be fun. But at least
we can help make it a little nicer to face the day.
How come my chin and upper lip are
harder to shave?
How come I get a lot of irritation and
nicks?

Boeing is back.
Aside from informal visits, this fall will
be the first time Boeing has been on your
campus since 1969. A lot has
happened since then. It was
a tough period. One which
saw the aerospace industry
plagued with manpower re
ductions. It was a period
of belt tightening, soul
searching, and finally
accomplishment.
Now the airline in
dustry has turned the cor
ner and jetliner orders are
coming faster than we ever
predicted. Orders for the 727-
200 have passed the 1,000 mark, and the
sale of ten 707’s to China represents a break
through which gained worldwide attention.
Boeing continues to pursue vigorously a
number of major aerospace programs, includ
ing a short takeoff and landing (STOL) air
craft, helicopters, the Airborne Warning and
Control System (AWACS), and space vehicles
and equipment, among others.
Boeing Computer Services, Inc., a wholly-
owned subsidiary, is becoming recognized as
a broad based company with services not only
in consulting, training, computer system de
sign, programming, and data processing, but
also in management, operations research, and
management of customer computer facilities.
While the major elements of our business
continue to be commercial jet transportation
and government defense and space require
ments, we have begun activities outside these
traditional areas. Measured on the scale of
total company operations, these diversifica
tion activities don’t loom very
large yet. But we believe
they have potential for
the future and could
represent as much as
25 percent of total
sales in a decade.
A few of these pro
grams are: 1) people
movers to unclog traffic
conditions in our cities; 2)
hydrofoils to move people and
freight over water faster; 3) a
100,000-acre test site where we’re growing
crops in a desert that has been stabilized with
garbage from a nearby city; 4) a pollution
control process that has application in de
salination and as a treatment of industrial
waste; and 5) aerospace programs that can
lead to a better understanding of how to
use this planet’s natural resources more
efficiently.
The point is—today Boeing is a lean,
ambitious, and very inventive company. A
place where new ideas flourish. Where an
attitude prevails that nothing we did before
is good enough for tomorrow. An organization
that’s rebuilding. Strong. Healthy. And de
voted to the development of new systems that
can keep planet Earth on course and the
people who live here healthy.
If this sounds like the kind of company
you can grow with, let’s get together. The
place to start is with your Placement Office.
