The Red Raiders have won the last four games dat ing back to 1969 and Coach Jim Carlen has never lost to the Ag gies. Coach Emory Bellard is look ing for his first conference win as head coach of the Aggies. The Red Raiders come into Sat urday’s game without any no ticeable injuries and the Aggies should be in the best physical condition since Wichita State. The odds-makers have tabbed Tech a 10-point favorite but Tech’s Carlen does not see an easy road ahead for his Raiders. “Texas A&M has had two weeks to get it all back together following some tough losses,” he said. “They have outstanding personnel and I know they will be ready to play us.” Last year, in what many felt was the worst game A&M had ever played in Lubbock, the Raid ers won 28-0. The Aggies will start a new quarterback, Don Dean, 6-0, 193, to run the Wishbone in place of senior Lex James. The starting lineup across the formation will be the same as it was at the start of the season. Fullback will be senior Brad Dusek, 6-2, 212. At halfbacks will be junior Mark Green, 6-3, 216, and freshman Bubba Bean, 6-0, 190. Freshmen split ends Richard Osborne, 6-5, 210, and Carl Roaches, 5-9, 155, will deliver the plays from Bellard to quarter back Dean. Ricky Seeker, 6-3, 238, and Ralph Sacra, 6-5, 235, will be at tackles on offense. Todd Christo pher, 6-2, 237, and Buster Calla way, 6-3, 258, will be at guards and Skip Kuehn, 6-0, 225, will be at center. At tight end will be Homer May, 6-3, 237. Max Bird, 6-0, 223, and Paul Hulin, 6-0, 206, will be at defen sive ends with Bill Wiebold, 6-3, 224, and Boice Best, 6-1, 233, at guards. The linebackers will be fresh man Ed Siminoni, 6-0, 200, sen ior Grady Hoermann, 6-0, 217, and senior Kent Finley, 6-0, 217. The defensive secondary will be made up of Corky Sheffield, 5-10, 180, and Robert Murski, 6-0, 189, at cornerbacks and Dwight La- Bauve, 6-1, 188, and Larry Ellis, 5-11, 172, at safeties. The game will pit the confer ence’s best total offensive unit in Tech (nation’s third with 477 yards per game) against the SWC’s second best defensive unit even with three losses and one victory. The Raiders also have the na tion’s fifth best rushing team and are the nation’s 12th top scorer with a 35-point average. The game is a “must” for both teams. Tech cannot lose another game and still have a chance for the conference crown as no team has lost two games and won an outright championship in the SWC in its existence of some 57 years. The Aggies must win to retain confidence lost two weeks ago by losing to Army. Second-ranked Oklahoma is a 21-point favorite over the 10th- ranked Longhorns in Saturday’s 67th renewal of their blood-feud classic in the Cotton Bowl before a regional television audience. “I don’t think people are tak ing them serious enough,” Welch says. “It’s gonna be a real bat tle. They’ve got as good a team as they’ve ever had.” Welch, one of Oklahoma’s many Texans, said he never thought about playing for the ’Horns: “They thought I was too little to play. I want to show them some thing.” Oklahoma has shown plenty in amassing victories over Utah State, Oregon and Clemson, out- scoring the opposition 169-6. The Oklahoma defense has allowed no touchdowns and two field goals. The Sooners lead the nation in total offense with 621 yards per game, rushing with 498.7 yards per game, and scoring with 56.3 points per contest. Texas is also unbeaten, taking the measure of Miami, Texas Tech and Utah State. Oklahoma and Texas have met one common opponent. The Soon ers ripped Utah State 49-0 and Texas scored a 27-12 victory. Oklahoma was No. 1 in the na tion in 1963 and Texas was No. 2 when the teams met. The un derdog Longhorns won and romped to the national title. The Sooners have been the underdogs every year since but registered a 48-27 victory in 1971. ATTENTION—CLASS OF 76 The Freshman Directory is ready for distribution.
