The annual Texas-Oklahoma
clambake highlights Southwest
Conference action this weekend
in a televised bout Saturday aft
ernoon in the Cotton Bowl.
The Sooners lead the nation in
total offense, rushing offense and
scoring and have not given up a
touchdown all season. Heisman
Trophy candidate Greg Pruitt
leads the Oklahoma half of the
Wishbone vs. Wishbone battle.
Alan Lowery will lead the Horns
into the rivalry which will be
played before a sellout crowd of
some 72,000 fans. Oklahoma is a
20 point favorite. Kickoff is
scheduled for 2:50.
Arkansas will play host to a
much improved Baylor Bear team
in a 2:00 game Saturday after
noon.
Baylor quarterback, Neal Jeff
ery has yet to suffer an intercep
tion on 57 tosses and Arkansas
quarterback Joe Ferguson is the
11th ranked passer in the nation.

sive in their nonconference
games, the Hogs have just now
only started to regroup after
their opening game loss to USC.
The Hogs came back from a 13-0
deficit to beat TCU last weekend.
Arkansas is a 14 point favorite
but they could be looking for
ward to next week’s matchup
with Texas.
The University of Houston
takes on undefeated San Diego
State in the Astrodome Saturday
at 7:30 p.m.
Impressive List
At Texas 500
One of the most impressive lists
of drivers entered for a single
event will be on hand for the Tex
as 500 Sunday Nov. 12 at the
Texas World Speedway.
Over 60 drivers from all three
of the nation’s stock-car sanc
tioning bodies have entered the
full FI-NASCAR sanctioned
event which is the final event on
the NASCAR calendar.
Richard Petty, Bobby Allison,
David Pearson, Buddy Baker and
James Hilton among others will
represent the NASCAR banner.
USAC contenders include A. J.
Foyt, driving a Wood Brothers
Mercury and Johnny Rutherford
in a Ford prepared by Junior
Dunlovey. The Automobile Rac
ing Club of America national
champion and recent winner of
the Royal Triton ARCA 300, Ron
Hutcherson, is also entered in the
500-mile marathon.
Practice begins Thursday Nov.
9 followed by qualifying for the
40 starting spots on Friday and
Saturday. The Texas 500 begins
at 1 p.m. on Nov. 12.
NFL Agrees To
‘No Blackout’
Of Super Bowl
NEW YORK UP) — National
Football League officials, bend
ing to congressional pressure,
agreed Thursday to televise Su
per Bowl VII locally if the game
is an advance sellout in Los An
geles.
Commissioner Pete Rozelle an
nounced that the championship
game would not be blacked out
in the Los Angeles area if all
tickets are sold at least 10 days
prior to the kickoff Jan. 14.
Congressional committees head
ed by Sen. John O. Pastore, D.-
R.I., and Rep. Harley O. Stag
gers, D.-W.Va., have been prob
ing into NFL procedures, espe
cially regarding blackouts of local
TV on games.
The congressmen demanded
that the NFL at least experiment
with lifting of blackouts if games
are not sold out several days
prior to the action.

The Coogs 1-2-1 record repre
sents their slowest start since
1965. San Diego is favored by 7
points.
Tulsa takes on its fourth
straight SWC opponent in the
TCU Frogs Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
Tulsa has lost to Houston, Ar
kansas and Texas Tech as well as
Kansas State. The Hurricanes
only win came at the hands of
Wichita State 10-9.
Tulsa’s running game is head
ed by a former Frog, Raymond
Rhodes. Rhodes transferred after
his sophomore year and bettered
the 100 yard mark against Texas
Tech. TCU is favored to run its
record to 3-1 by 11 points.
Rice and SMU have the week
off while they prepare for each
other in their SWC opener in
Dallas next week.
Next week Arkansas faces the
Texas Longhorns in the game
many people feel will decide the
eventual conference champion
again this year.
Third place seems to be a toss-
up between the other six teams
but things should clear up by the
end of next week.

FLIGHT
SOUTH
%
it was only a faint sound at first, but it
grew louder and louder. Then I knew what it
was and rushed from the house.
High overhead, dark . against the bright
autumn sky, a flight of geese winged instinc
tively toward the south. Large wings flapped
in graceful rhythm, and raucous honks of con
versation brought a nostalgic ache to my
throat.
"Bon voyage," I called, saluting with my
whole heart the brave creatures who flew so
unswervingly through uncharted skies.

And I wondered at us humans. How we
doubt and fear and flail about, worrying
about tomorrow and a dozen other somethings!
Our course is not unknown. God promises
abundant life if we but follow Him.
Your church is your guidebook to God.
Worship there and find the security that comes
from within, the result of understanding God
and one's relationship to Him.
