Three Freshmen May Start
Aggies Injury Riddled
By BILL HENRY
Battalion Sports Editor
Biggest news coming from
Coach Emory Bollard’s press con
ference Tuesday was the possi
bility A&M’s backfield against
Army Saturday will be made up
of three freshmen and a senior.
“Both Brad Dusek and Mark
Green are question marks for
Saturday’s game against Army,”
Bellard said. “And every time I
have said a player was a question
mark, he has not played.”
Dusek, injured in the second
period against Nebraska, is still
under treatment for a sprained
knee while Green suffered an ex
tremely painful, but harmless,
hip-pointer against LSU in the
first half.
Freshman replacements for
each, Alvin Bowers at fullback
and Skip Walker at halfback, did
a commendable job last week
against the Tigers.
“Walker has excellent speed
(9.5) and instinctive natural run
ning talent,” Bellard commented.
Walker scored A&M’s only
touchdown from scrimmage on
a bidlliant, catapulting, 12-yard
blast. Bowers, since replacing
Dusek, has carried 10 times for
42 yards.
Murski Finally Finds A Home
It took A&M’s Robert Murski
awhile to find his niche, but he’s
making the most of it now.
The 6-1, 180-pound senior from
Houston is the kind of athlete
who could have been a standout
at any one of nine positions. At
St. Thomas High School, where
he twice earned all-state honors,
Murski was a quarterback, run
ning back and defensive back. As
a freshman and sophomore at
A&M, he was at cornerback. Last
Water Polo
Match Set
Texas A&M’s water polo team
will have two matches this week.
Coach Dennis Fosdick’s squad
hosted Arlington Wednesday in
Downs Natatorium.
The Aggies beat Rice 23-10 in
their only action thus far.
Starting for the Aggies will be
Paul McKinzie, goalie, an All-
America from DeAnza Junior Col
lege in Cupertino, Calif.; Fred
Meyers and Lester Hamann, both
All-Americas from College of San
Mateo, Calif.; Gordon Brown,
from Foothill College in Los Al
tos, Calif.; Steve Prentice, from
Pasadena, Tex.; Mike Hicks, from
Farmington, N.M.; and Steve
Sonnenberg, from Houston Me
morial.
Brown and Meyers ^are co-cap
tains of the water polo team.
year he was a flanker and split
end.
Last spring Murski was moved
back to cornerback to strengthen
a defensive backfield which had
lost all four starters from the
previous year. The move proved
to be a wise one as Murski has
been the leader of the secondary
through A&M’s first three games.
Murski also won the punting
job in a stiff three-way battle and
has averaged 37.5 yards on 15
kicks.
Murski got married this past
summer and is one of 33 married
players on the Aggie team.
In A&M’s first three games,
the secondary has faced three
outstanding passers. Hopefully,
that experience and Murski’s
leadership will contribute to a
mature containing unit for the
conference race ahead.
On the bright side of the injury
problem, Bubba Bean should be
back at full speed for the first
time since the second quarter of
the Wichita State contest.
Other injuries that could def
initely cause grief for the Aggies
this weekend are to middle line
backer Grady Hoermann and de
fensive tackle Boice Best. Both
of these stellar defenders have
slight knee sprains and are hob
bling.
“They were not able to practice
Monday and I’m not sure about
today,” Bellard said.
This Saturday’s opponent,
Army, was soundly defeated by
Nebraska last week, 77-7.
“I really don’t know what to
say after last week,” Bellard said
of the Cadets. “Army plays
tough, hard-nosed football and
they didn’t play dead against
Nebraska.
“They run out of a pro-type
offensive set, throw well, run the
power sweep well and similar
plays to what we’ve seen the past
three weeks.”
Another question mark for the
Aggies is whether or not the two
losses have affected their confi
dence enough to hurt upcoming
performances.
“It hurts to lose,” Bellard em
phasized. “But, there is nothing
wrong with our team that a good
win wouldn’t eliminate. There is
no morale problem but a team
shouldn’t feel good about losing.”
Golf Team
Hosts Army
The Texas A&M golf team will
host Army in a 10 am. match Sat
urday on the A&M course.
Playing for the Aggies will be
Tom Johnson, Steve Veriato,
Charles White, Randy Tickner,
Clay Dozier and Bill Hodges.
The match will be the first of
the year for the Aggies.
