THE BATTALION
Wednesday, September 27, 1972 College Station, Texas Page 3
Janet Landers
— information
Fall is in the air, along with footballs and football players. When
the Army football team lands Saturday at 12:50 p.m. they will be met
by A&M coeds. Any coed interested in welcoming the “Black Knights”
to A&M is asked to be at the airport by 12:30 p.m. Cwens and OPA
will be there, but this is not limited to any group. Everyone is invited to
participate. We are hoping this will be the only bright spot in Army’s
weekend As long as we’re on the subject of football, how about
you coeds putting a bee in your dates ear about getting a corsage for
the game. Tbe Student Floral Concession is selling corsages made by the
floricultural students. This is a branch of the Floricultural Club. White
mums are $2.25 and a corsage of two maroon mums is $3.25. To place
an order all one has to do is go to the floriculture greenhouse (try the
corner of Nagle and Lamar Streets). Orders may be placed at 12-5 p.m.
Wednesday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Corsages may be
picked up Saturday, 10-12 noon. Proceeds from sales will be used for
a floriculture scholarship The Women’s Volleyball Club’s
traveling team will participate in a tournament Sept. 29-30 at Sam
Houston State in Huntsville. The team will be in competition with 24
girls teams throughout the state Slimnastics and Modern
Dance are two new courses offered by the Physical Education
Department this fall. Slimnastics is for females only and includes all
types of body conditioning programs. These range from jogging, weight
training, cycling, to aerobic dancing which is all forms of dancing
developed into routines. Modern Dance class is creative dancing in
which the student uses imagination and music to create a free-forn
routine. The class is evenly divided between men and women (it’s nice
to know something around here is) Maid of Cotton application
forms may be picked up in Dean of Women Toby Schreiber’s office. A
girl; must never have been married, 21 to 23 years old inclusive, at least
five feet five inches, and born in one of the cotton producing states.
For more details coeds should contact Dean Schreiber’s
office More applications forms in Dean Schreiber’s office, this
time for Diamond Darlings. Twelve girls will be chosen according to
poise, agility, beauty and overall appearance. Applicants must be
undergraduates with a 2.0 grade point ratio. No prior knowledge of
baseball is necessary as study handouts will be available. Last year’s
Diamond Darlings were judged best All American Bat Girls over a field
of 50 university groups More women’s news on page six

Apartment Rx
For Doldrums
Has the novelty of apartment
living worn off? Does the routine
of shopping drain you of enthu
siasm ? Even if this does not ap
ply to you, the following list of
energizers may be helpful.
Before you go shopping again,
find some of the latest issues of
magazines such as “Woman’s
Day” or “Family Circle” and clip
out some new recipes. You can’t
go wrong with the ones using
hamburger or chicken. Get some
thing different especially if it
has accompanying color photo
graph.
Try to plan your menus at
least a week in advance. Avoid
spur of the moment shopping runs
and NEVER go shopping on an
empty stomach.
When making a list of the
things you need, consult the paper
for news of specials, but remem
ber, you pay for the stamps. Take
the new recipes along and be de
termined that your results will be
as yummy as those pictures.
It is easiest to plan a break
fast type of supper on the days
you shop, after working and
shopping who needs to slave in
a hot kitchen ?
If a package of meat will go
further than one meal, divide it
up, wrap the portions in foil or
freezer wrap and chuck them in
the freezer until needed.
Stick a copy of the planned
menus on the refrigerator door—
why memorize such trivia ?
If you know you are going to
have a busy week, plan to cook
meals ahead of time. Choose
something which will freeze or
keep well. For example, make up
a basic meatloaf but double it.
Baking one now and freezing the
other or bake both and eat one
hot and the other sliced cold and
slipped under the broiler with
cheese topping.
New Hours
For Commons
The Krueger-Dunn commons
area will be open only to residents
without hours on weekdays un
til 2 a.m. and on weekends to
residents and guests.
The commons was previously
open until midnight but in a meet
ing of the dorm officers, E. C.
Oates and the head residents, the
rules were changed.
Other items discussed were the
replacement of recreational facil
ities and the establishment of
judicial boards. The boards will
deal with infractions of visitation
hours and other rules. Each dorm
will have its own board.
The reception desk in the com
mons has been established as a
sign-in and sign-out area for girls
who have restricted hours. Girls
must show student identification
cards upon entering the dorm af
ter curfew.
A thirty late minutes grace
period will be given each
semester. After accumulating 30
late minutes, coeds will he cam-
pused for a weekend.
