Few apartments available now and Sept. 1. 822-5236 Marksmen Aiming For 3 Rifle Teai Tryouts will be held Sept. 5-7 for three rifle teams to represent A&M during 1972-73. Shooters can take aim at berths on a women’s team, a university wide men’s team and ROTC team, according to SFC Max M. Schill. The only ROTC-supported ac tivity open to all TAMU students, the rifle teams practice and shoot matches at the six-point basement range in the Military Science Building annex. Trips to various competitions are made during the year. Sgt. Schill said the all-univer sity team tryouts will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5. The Ca det Corps ROTC team will fire tryouts Wednesday, Sept. 6, and girls’ team Thursday, Sept. 7, both at 5 p.m. “Interested students should come by in advance to sign up for a tryout time, so they won’t have to wait,” Schill said. The team coach, who shot on the national champion team in 1964, said “We’re interested in new people who want to shoot. We would like them to have prev ious experience, but that’s not a requirement.” TAMU teams won trophies at the National Rifle Association sectional, 5th Army Smallbore Match, San Antonio Fiesta Matches and set a new men’s scoring record in taking first places for both men and women’s teams at the 23rd Southwest In vitational Smallbore Tournament at El Paso. They compete in the Southwest Rifle Association. Sgt. Schill noted the three teams return virtually all shoot ers except Wayne Jordan, top scorer on the all-university men’s team. Jordan is now in graduate school. His wife Nancy will fire on the women’s team, considered a possible national winner this year or next. “The competition for new shoot ers will be tough, but they could make a team,” Schill added. The vans will arrive Sept. 6 for two days and will be stationed at 111 S. Main in Bryan, accord ing to Jack Coker, Waco Veterans Administration Regional Office director. The vans are touring Texas as forerunners of a multi-federal agency concept to be put into nationwide action to reach veter ans not making full use of their benefits. Traveling with the vans will be a team of four VA benefits spe cialists, a clerk and a Texas Em ployment Commission represent-*’ 1 ative who will be from the local office of the TEC. Information and counseling in various veteran benefit areas will be offered. These include educa tion, home loans, medical benefits, disability compensation*, employ ment, job training, housing as sistance and individual and family counseling. A key feature of the vans’ ef fectiveness will be the complete telephone communication avail able for counselors. Contact may be made from the van to any government office needed to give veterans complete, one-stop serv ice. Veterans can also get most of their questions answered by con tacting the Veterans Administra tion, the office of Health, Educa tion and Welfare, Housing and Urban Development, the Office of Economic Opportunity and the Texas Employment Commission.
