At summer camp
Air Force ROTC cadets win 10 awards
Air Force ROTC cadets from
AAM collected 10 individual
awards at summer field training,
including the outstanding cadet
at Eglin AFB. Fla-. Robert L.
Jones of Las Croeee, N. M.
Jones won the AFROTC Com
mandant’s Award in competition
with nearly 400 cadets from the
nation's five military schools.
Hie No. 1 camp ranking gives
AAM a near clean sweep of top
cadet awards at the various sum
mer training sessions.
TAMU had the top Army RO
TC cadet at Fort Riley, Kan., in
Leslie C. Lyons of Honolulu. Kd
ward P. Rumold of PhilUpaburg,
N. J., scored highest ia Ranger
training at Fort Banning. Ga.

Times honor**, for contributing
to field training esprit through
attitude, eagerness, officer and
leadership potential and partici
pation in various activities.
Ramage was a two-award win
ner. He was one of six TAMU
cadets ranked at the top of their
flights and also received the
camp-wide athletic award.

M. Fraser, Texas City; Martin F.
Litteken Jr., Wichita Falls; John
M. Turner, Dallas, and Ramage
earned AFROTC Vice-Comman

tonio won an academic achieve
ment award, a flight-level honor.

TAMU had 141 cadets in field
training, 1S4 at Eglin.

A special course in Spanish for
Mexican-Americans will be taught
this fall by the Modem Languages
Department at AAM.
Students raised in the South
west speaking Spanish and part-
time students who wish to im
prove their knowledge of their
mother tongue may enroll, accord
ing to Dr. Jack A. Dabbs, de
partment head.
Admission may be granted on
individual approval to applicants
who are over 21 years of age.
The course, Spanish 116, was
prepared especially for Spanish-
speaking Americana. Its principal
objective, Dabbs said, will be to
improve students’ command of
the Spanish language through
oral and written work.
Classes will meet from 4 to 6
pm. daily. Mrs. ElMs BotUno
will instruct. She has many years
experience in Latin American
public schools.
