External Affairs Jerry Arterburn (Sr-ED) In my travels this year, repre senting the students of A&M both at the state and national level, I have become more aware of what potential we as students have for new and varied pro grams here at A&M. I strongly believe in, and will work for, a student owned shuttle bus sys tem, a workable student co-op, the election of student advisers to the College Station City Council, a merchant-student as sociation, an enlarged student discount program, a free campus for political candidates, a much improved parking system, stu dent involvement in the state leg islature, improvement of off- campus representation, the estab lishment of a day career center, and a job opportunities program to aid students in securing jobs in the community while attend ing A&M. Barb Sears (Soph-Zool) Qualifications: 2 years on Stu dent Senate, Senate Recording Secretary, President Williams’ Advisory Council, Debate team, Former Students Advisory Board, Distinguished Student. The External AffaiTs^Commit- tee is a very important one. Through it, students will finally have an established means of communication with the com munity. As chairman of the com mittee, I would work to promote and protect student interests in these ways: The student as a consumer: ex pand student discount program, provide channel for business com plaint. The student as a resident: pro vide assistance to students con cerning deposit returns, publish apartment review. The student as a voter: pub lish voting records of elected of ficials, provide transportation to the polls. The student as an employe: help students obtain fair wage levels in their community jobs, establish summer job opportuni ties program. Rules and Regulations Fred Campbell (Jr-PMed) Texas A&M is a university in transition. Students here as on other campuses are asking seri ous questions concerning the university’s role in their lives.
