Highpoint of the five-hour match was Danny Courson’s win over Greek champion, Hondas Argyiou, in split sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1. “Courson’s win was a great one for him and the team,” coach Omar Smith said. “This win may have gotten his confidence up after the slump he’s been in.” In the number one doubles match, Dickie Fikes and Courson beat the number one OCU team of Dale Powell and Tony Dawson, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. The third game was forfeited when Dawson’s legs be gan to cramp. In the contest, six split sets were played with Oklahoma City winning four. “That really killed us,” Smith said. “We should have won some of those split sets, but the kids just couldn’t get it together against these seasoned veterans.” OCU team is made up of three Australians, a Canadian, a Greek and a Costa Rican. A&M did do better than in the first meeting, as the initial tilt ended up in a 7-0 rout compared to the 7-2 match Wednesday. In the singles action, Karl Coombes of OCU defeated Fikes, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. NOTICE AGGIES Do we need a new sheriff in this county? One who will enforce the law without being rude. One who will not let the big shots go while arresting others for the same acts. One whose doors will always be open to all who need to talk to the sheriff. Who will treat everyone with respect. One who will not permit actions that tend to humiliate those who are under arrest or investigation. One who will restore respect to the sheriffs office. If the answer is yes, then I need your help, to get more people to sign up to vote in Brazos County before April 5th. Write me or come by to see me at Shell Service Station 23rd. and Texas in Bryan.
