Saturday “IT S SOMETHING DIFFERENT” A matter of life by Gordon Richardson ‘To err is human,” wrote Misconception is one of the most human words in the English language. Think about that for a moment. Only humans can have con ceptions in the first place. And as for misconceptions . . Alexander Pope more then two centuries ago. It is, it is. And this is as true of the business arena as it is of any other form of human endeavor. Whatever your trade or profession. I’d be willing to bet I have at least five wrong-headed ideas about it. And these, of course, are ideas I cherish . . . that is, would part with only reluctantly. And—if you'll permit—the same is true of my calling: life underwriting. Many, many people, for instance, still think life insurance is only for their beneficiaries. That worries me. Because life insurance is for a variety of living purposes. At Provident Mutual, we design it to get kids to college, establish retirement funds, achieve legitimate tax advantages . . . and so on. With no obliga tion . . . just to clear up misconceptions . . . I’ll be glad to go over a list of living purposes with you. Write to 707 University Drive Or call 846-7027. The new fel lowship will be selectively award ed to geology graduates who earned part or all of their under graduate expenses while attend ing A&M and who have high scholastic grades. In presenting the fellowship Halbouty stated, “There is no question in my mind that further excellence in education and knowledge lies in post-graduate work and studies. “Therefore, it is for this reason I am most pleased to present the very first graduate fellowship to be established in the field of ge ology in this great university,” Halbouty said. Halbouty is the author of 180 technical papers and several books on petroleum geology and engineering. As a geologist and pertoleum engineer, Halbouty has made numerous investigations and evaluations of oil and gas fields throughout the world. He either discovered or is geo logically responsible for new pro duction in approximately 50 fields in the U.S., including Alaska. He is president and chairman of the board of Halbouty Alaska Oil Co., which was the first independent company to discover an Alaskan gas field. In Harrisburg 7 trial Motion for mistrial denied HARRISBURG, Pa. (A>)_De fense attorney Paul O’Dwyer, pro testing the “arrogance” of paid FBI informer Boyd Douglas Jr. and the court’s failure to repri mand him, said today “it is im possible for the jury to deal fair ly” with the Harrisburg 7 con spiracy trial defendants. O’Dwyer’s motion for a mis trial, however, was swiftly re jected by U.S. District Court Judge R. Dixon Herman without comment. It was a renewal of a similar plea made Tuesday by O’Dwyer who accused the judge of preju dice. Specifically, in his written mo tion, O’Dwyer objected to “the protective attitude of the court towards the witness and the court’s interjection into the cross- examination, which could only be described as paternalism.” Douglas, a 31-year-old ex-con vict, started his seventh day in the witness box as the govern ment’s star witness. O’Dwyer said Douglas’ “arro gance . . . gave him carte blanche to engage in quarrelsome dialogue with counsel and to usurp the function of the court in making what could be regarded as juridi cal rulings.” O’Dwyer’s emotional outburst Tuesday brought charges that Herman was protecting Douglas from answering damaging de fense questions aimed at destroy ing his credibility.
