It doesn’t seem “time” for the
boat show, but the first yachts
are already moving into Astro-
hall, the very first one a Grand
Banks cruiser of classic Nova
Scotia lines.
Due to work completed on the
interior of Astrohall, the show
will have a full 15 acres of air-
conditioned exhibit space, and as
usual it will be filled "to capacity
with boats and outdoor equip
ment from around the world.

year seems to come up with an

largest equipment exhibit.
This year the “new idea” is a
dual purpose one designed to
give weary show trodders a com
fortable place to rest and relax
between forays across the 15
acres of Astrohall. And while
they’re resting, they’ll be treat
ed to boating, fishing and adven
ture films from around the world
at the boat show’s new “Adven
ture Film Theatre.”
Beautiful hostesses at the film
theatre and “hospitality area”
will be contestants in the annual
Miss Mermaid Beauty Pageant,
a contest which this year has
national significance in that the
winner of the boat show pageant
will automatically be qualified to
compete for the “Miss Texas
Universe” title, one of the offi
cial preliminaries of the U.S.A.
contest.
One of the show’s most popu
lar attractions last year, the
Hunting and Fishing Informa
tion Center, will also be bigger
and better this year taking in
most of the North Lobby of As
trohall.
This is the area in which ex
pert fishermen, guides, shippers,
etc. offer personal advice and in
formation on everything from
where to camp and launch a boat
to how to catch a bass. Most of
the coast’s most famous fishing
guides appear at least one night
at one of the various exhibits
which include those of the major
lakes (Sam Rayburn, Toledo
B e n d, Livingston, Somerville,
Canyon, etc.) as well as the
major saltwater fishing and re
sort areas from Galveston to
Port Mansfield.
