Rollie White Coli seum. Victims of a 117-53 rout by the UCLA Bruins in Califox*nia, A&M bounced back with an BO OS victory over the Bobcats. Pauley Pavilion and the top- ranked Bruins totally over whelmed the Aggies. UCLA’s wealth of talent was too much for outmanned A&M. From the beginning, the size and ability of the Californians showed without a doubt. The Ag gies were out-rebounded 07-45, with the big factor being height. Every missed shot gave UCLA the ball, and nearly every pos session gave them two points. A&M shot 30%,' while the Bruins hit on 50% of their tries. The national power was led by Bill Walton with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Keith Wilkes fol lowed with 22 points and 17 re bounds, and Greg Lee added 15 tallies, Henry Bibby 11, Tommy Curtis 10 and Swen Nater 10, with as many rebounds. Mario Brown and Bob Gobin had 10 points each, followed by Randy Knowles and Jeff Over house with nine. Knowles had 10 rebounds and Overhouse sev en. But if the Aggies were gun- shy, Southwest suffered the con sequences, with A&M hauling in 61 rebounds to the Bobcats’ 38. The San Marcos team managed to hit 45.8% from the field, but the Aggies shot 58.1%. A&M dominated from the be ginning, starting with Gobin’s layup after the opening tip. Overhouse, Brown and Howard led the first half charge, scoring 11, 10 and eight points respec tively. Brown hit an eight-fobt jump shot six minutes into the contest to give the Aggies a 15-9 lead. Another six minutes passed, and the junior college transfer hit one from nine feet away, making it 29-20. With 2:56 to go in the period, Gobin drew a foul when Alan Rheaume charged on a driving layup. The 6-3 junior hit both free throws. Then he stole the inbounds pass and was fouled again, sinking both charity shots to make it 39-25. A&M kept it up after the in termission, raising the score to 54-32 on another free throw by Gobin, who converted five of six penalty shots. The Aggies kept the margin in this area, leading 62-41 with 14:12 showing. In the next six minutes they scored once on a layup by Over house. With the lead down to 11 with 8:25 remaining, Howard hit a short jumper to make it 66-53. The Bobcats trimmed it to eight two times, but Overhouse hit a pair of free throws and Howard did the same. Then, Overhouse struck on a layup with an assist from Howard, and it was 77-63 with 4:07 to play. The Aggies continued the ral ly with Gobin making a layup, Knowles a pair of free throws and a 24-foot jumper and How ard a free shot. Knowles put the finishing touch on Southwest with 10 seconds left, popping the net on a 20 footer from the left side. Overhouse had 13 rebounds, j Knowles 10 and Brown seven. Gobin was ci*edited with nine as sists, in addition to playing a fine defensive game.
