Daily RHHBflHHHHHil THANKSGIVING HOLIDAYS CLOSED FRIDAY, NOV. 26 UNTIL MONDAY, NOV. 29, 1971 MEAL SCHEDULE AT SBISA MEAL SCHEDULE AT DUNCAN THE A&,M RUGBY CLUB concluded its 1971 season last weekend by winning the Lone Star Invitational Rugby Tournament in Houston. Here, Steve Hannon is about to be hit by two Houston players. The Aggies went on to win 3-0. (Photo by Mike Huslage) Aggies win championship at Houston rugby tourney Battered, bruised and dead on their feet, the A&M Rugby Club defeated the fresher Galveston rugby team to win the champion ship trophy at the Lone Star In vitational Rugby Tournament in Houston Sunday. A&M, this year’s Texas Rugby Union champions, had the tough est draw of the tourney. Their first opponent was the Austin Gold Rugby team, reputed to be the one capable of beating the Aggies. The Aggies had their hands full, in a battle that was tied with three minutes left to play. At that time, winger Randy Har- ju got the ball 15 yards from his own goal line. He blistered by his nearest opponent and went 85 yards, beating the Austin full back with a fancy move to touch down between the Austin posts. John Gunn’s conversion gave the Aggies a 6-0 win. Two hours later, A&M met the Houston Rugby Club, winner of the previous two Lone Star Tour naments, and in a tough, unre lenting battle managed to scrape by on a 30 yard penalty goal by Gunn. Rice came up in the following round 90 minutes later, and the tiring Aggies roes to the occa sion, defeating them 19-0. This put A&M in Sunday’s champion ship game with Galveston. The Aggies played three games with two twenty minute halves per game to get into the finals. Galveston only had to play two games to qualify for the champ ionship of two forty minute halves. A&M was able to over come a strong rally by Galveston for a 10-6 win and the champion ship trophy. The Houston meet ends sched uled activity for the Rugby Club this year. Undefeated in 20 games, they scored 411 points against their opponents’ 91. The Aggies have all their play ers returning in 1972, and they hope to field two or three first teams. They are looking for new and capable members, and any one interested should come to practice afternoons on the drill field.
