The award is given annually for the outstanding senior foot ball player of the Southwest Con ference who has shown the great est amount of leadership, schol arship and character both on and off the field. Last year’s winner was Arkansas tailback Bill Bur nett and in 1969 Texas A&M’s Buster Adami was awarded the trophy. The winner of the award, which is sponsored by Humble Oil Com pany, will be announced Dec. 8. Luebbehusen has been a stal wart in the linebacking corps at Texas A&M for the past three years. As a freshman Steve was named All-SWC at linebacker and has started for the varsity ever since. He is a graduate of Fort Worth Eastern Hills where he copped All-State honors. He is a finance major with a 3.1 grade- point-ratio. Other nominees include Gary Hammond, Southern Methodist; Steve Judy, Texas Christian; Ron Evans, Baylor; Jim Bertelson, Texas; Larry Molinaire, Texas Tech; Jack Morris, Arkansas and Stable Vincent, Rice. Hammond has been concensus All-SWC for two years at two different positions. As a sopho more, he played split end and last year he ran the tailback slot. This year he is trying his third different position, that of quar terback. He has led the conference in pass receiving the past two seasons and was the fourth lead ing rusher in the SWC last year with 891 yards. In 1969, Ham mond was named the SWC Soph omore of the year. If he makes all conference again this year, he will he only the 20th player in conference history to make it three years in a row and the first to make it at three different positions. Judy led the SWC in total of fense as a sophomore with 2,019 yards. That year he was named to Football News’ Sophomore All- American and academic All-SWC. In 1970 he won a spot on the Churchman’s All-America team and as a freshman was named All-SWC both ways. He has start ed 20 of TCU’s past 21 games, missing one because of an ankle injury. In his two varsity years, Judy has amassed 3,521 total yards and scored 60 points. Steve is married and majors in business. Evans gave up a chance at den tal school to complete his eligi bility this season. The 6-6, 245 offensive tackle played in 747 plays last year while grading over 90 per cent in 10 of 11 games, C to Steve Luebbehusen making second team All-S^.
