Racking up its twentieth successive victory for 1971, the “A” team scrambled the Galveston Rugby Club 23-4 in Galveston last Saturday. The Aggies started slowly, playing well within their poten tial, and the optimistic Galveston side pressed hard for an opening. However, as has been the story all year, low flying Aggies stopped almost every attack dead. First scoring for the Aggies was John Gunn with a thirty yard penalty kick for 3 points. Soon after, Steve Harmon burst over for a try, which Gunn converted to make the total 9-0. Galveston retaliated with good covering when Mark Reidel hit hard into a tackle, forcing the ball over the line for Galveston, and the score stood 9-4 at the half. The second period belonged solely to A&M. Still not clicking Color Photography • WEDDINGS • PORTRAITS • DANCES Professional quality at prices students can afford. Robert C. College — 822-9959 COME AS U—R into their usual smooth attack, the Aggies were nevertheless the dominant force. Gunn kicked two more penalties and Giles Fort and Steve Sturman scored a try each. The score would have been great er but for penalties which cost the Aggies much ground, but which Galveston could not use to great advantage. On November 20 the Aggies will be competing with nine other teams in the Houston Rugby Tournament. Last year Rice, in a very controversial game, just managed to beat A&M for that tournament championship, but this year the Aggies hope to put things right. The “B” team of A&M also stomped home to a victory over Galveston “B” team. Showing ex cellent forward power the Aggies racked up 15 points to the Gal veston team’s 4. Scoring for A&M were Gary Junot with 13 points; once with a slashing run over twenty yards for a try, and three times with penalty kicks, and Bruce Mills, who kicked the con version to add two points to Ju- not’s try. With the exception of the tour nament, A&M has now completed all its scheduled matches for 1971. Since the regular season started last January, the “A” team has played twenty games including six in the off-season during this semester. They have won every match and have scored 392 points while allowing only 84 points against them. During this off season alone the Aggies have laid 194 points on their opponents while having only 30 scored against them. It has been a very successful year, but with experience and a winning tradition the Club is aim ing at an even better 1972. Any Aggie who feels he would like to learn the game is welcome to come out. Practices occur between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. most weekdays on the Drill Field. The Club also has its social side, and welcomes any girls who may want to join for the fun of the Rugby traditions. pp THE SKY’S THE LIMIT in the A&M Rugby Club’s 23-4 win over Galveston Saturday. Associated Press Sports Writer NEW YORK OP)—It is impor tant for a member of a bomb squad to be in the right place at the right time, and doing just that made Philadelphia’s Bill Hobbs The Associated Press De fensive Player of the Week Tues day in the National Football League. Hobbs, a right outside line-1 backer who also is a member of the Philadelphia punt return team known as the bomb squad, blocked a punt and ran six yards victory over Denver last Sunday. The third-year pro from Texas A&M edged two other linebackers to gain the award—Nick Buoni- conti of Miami and Steve Kiner of New England. “Usually when you block a kick someone else recovers it. I was lucky to have been in posi tion to get it myself and it made it doubly as good,” Hobbs said of his touchdown in the second quarter that gave Philadelphia 17-7 lead. Hobbs was hospitalized in Phil adelphia Tuesday with an inflam mation of the lungs. “We were not necessarily in spired,” said Buoniconti after he made nine unassisted tackles and forced two fumbles in Miami’s 20-14 victory over Los Angeles. Kiner stood out in New Eng land’s 27-10 loss to San Francis co, making nine tackles and inter cepting a pass.
