W. Varner & Sons Jewelers North Gate 846-5816 -SSES VY TOR ,OCK R.N. firing, counseling, supervising, costuming and filing constant re ports on 90 similarly endowed girls. And there’s only one thing she doesn’t like about it all—her title. “I hate being called ‘Bunny Mother’,” Miss Yee says, her dark eyes snapping, though still crin kling with humor. But she is, in fact, in charge of the Bunnies at the Playboy club here, and it’s no easy job. Miss Yee spent a week at the Playboy headquarters in Chicago being trained for her job, but she says her own experience as a Bunny also helped. Miss Yee admits customers ask Bun nies for dates frequently, and they are not allowed to go. “They are told to say, ‘I’m te rribly sorry sir, but we aren’t allowed to go out with customers.’ If the customer persists, the floor manager will take care of the situation,” she says. And what happens if a Bunny doesn’t follow the rules? “She’s fired,” Miss Yee says. The image of a Bunny, Miss Yee says, is, “a young, fresh, personable young lady,” emphasis on lady, and when she’s hiring new Bunnies she keeps those fac tors firmly in mind. When a new Bunny is hired, she has a week’s orientation course, Miss Yee explains. At the end of that time, she must pass a written test, and after a month she has a review course. At the end of three months a girl is taught how to serve food. And even getting dressed is complicated. “Each girl usually has three costumes,” Miss Yee says. These include plain pumps, support hose (both for comfort and appearance) patterned hose, the shell, a rosette with the Bunny’s name on it, white collars and cuff, and the famous cotton tail. There are four seamstresses working full-time to maintain the costumes. Senior receives $500 Ralston award Ronald W. Droll of Rowena, senior agricultural engineering major at Texas A&M University, has received a $500 Ralston Pur ina Scholarship in recognition of academic standing and student activities. Dr. R. C. (AP Wirephoto) Girl karate star poses new competition to a man’s art READING, Pa. </T)—In these liberated 70s it is no surprise to find a girl like Kim Fritz with two four-foot-high trophies and over 40 other awards, for-—of all things—her karate talents. In fact Kim, a recent high school graduate, is the No. 1 karate competitor in the United States, and she only began study ing karate two years ago. She wanted a little knowledge of self- defense, but found she loved it. In this “age of the body,” as Kim puts it, karate develops a tremendous amount of mental as well as physical awareness and discipline. Balance and mind- over-matter are the keys to the exercises that teach the student to strike wtih full body weight. The remarkable thing is that there is no physical contact in karate. “It take quite a bit of self-control to pull a punch three inches from someone’s nose, or kick past an ear, disturbing only a few hairs,” Kim remarked. Kim also explains that women usually pick up karate faster than men, since men have to un learn so many fighting techniques which are not acceptable in karate. Women are usually in better physical shape too, since they keep themselves physically active doing housework. Kim reports women enjoy the karate exercises, not only because they are slimming, but also be cause they are similar to ballet exercises and produce grace and coordination. Area Kiwanians get state posts Two local Kiwanians were elected to high Division IX offices last weekend during the Texas- Oklahoma District Convention.
