Samson Jr., P.E., professor and head of the Civil Engineering Department, has been installed for a second two- year term as national director no. 1 of the Texas Society of Pro fessional Engineers. Samson, who earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees at Notre Dame and his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri, also serves as re search engineer and head of the Civil Engineering Division, Texas Engineering Station and as a re search engineer at the Texas Transportation Institute. Geosciences names assistant dean Dr. Kenneth C. Brundidge has been named assistant dean of geo sciences. Dean John C. Calhoun Jr. said Brundidge will be assistant dean for student affairs, succeeding Professor Fred E. Smith who re tired this month. Brundidge joined the meteor ology faculty in 1955 and was promoted to full professor in 1968, the same year he won the Association of Former Students’ award for distinguished teaching. He earned his Ph.D. at Texas A&M in 1961 after receiving B„S. and M.S. degrees at the Univer sity of Chicago. Animal Science head honored Dr. O. D. Butler Jr., head of the Animal Science Department, will be presented the American Meat Science Association’s Signal Service Award at the annual meeting June 13-16 at the Univer sity of Kentucky, Lexington. The award honors an individual who has made numerous contri butions to the efficiency of the livestock industry. Butler is vice president of the association and will serve as president-elect during 1971-72. He is a recognized authority in the objective evaluation of beef carcasses and he was one of the first to advocate crossbreeding for increased beef production. Butler, in cooperation with Dr. Sylvia Cover, was the first to at tempt to characterize the com ponents of beef tenderness. USDA gives $100,000 to A&M scientists The U. S. Department of Agri culture recently announced that a $100,000 research grant has been made to two Texas A&M scientists for studies relating to boll weevil eradication. Dr. Dale G. Bottrell, of the agricultural research and Exten sion center at Lubbock, and Dr. Horace R. Burke, Department of Entomology at Texas A&M, are the project leaders supervising the studies. The research is one of 12 pro jects on pest control and efficient production of cotton that received grants from the USDA. ^ Class of ’30 reunion will mark a first Members of the 1930 class at Texas A&M University mark a first for the institution’s Asso ciation of Former Students next weekend when they assemble at Fort Collins, Colo., for their 41st anniversary. It will be the first A&M class reunion held outside Texas. Association Executive Director Richard (Buck) Weirus said Dr. William E. Morgan, retired pres ident of Colorado State Universi ty and 1930 agricultural admin istration graduate of Texas A&M, will host the reunion. Tuesday announc ed the appointments of Herbert N. Wade as supervisor of joint operations and Roy E. Munson as assistant to the manager (opera tions), both in the Producing De partment-Eastern Hemisphere. Wade graduated from Texas A&M in 1949 with a bachelor of science in petroleum engineering and joined Texaco the same year. Munson received a bachelor of science in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M in 1951. He joined Texaco in 1953 as an en gineering trainee in South Texas. Professor co-author for encyclopedia Sayed Z. El-Sayed, associate professor of oceanography, is among the new contributors to the 1971 edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica. He is author, in part, of the article on Antartica. Encyclopaedia Britannica is the oldest continuously published ref erence book in the English lan guage. It was wirst published in Edinburgh, Scotland, 203 years ago in 1768.
